Dear Hiring Manager:
I am a graduate from the University of California, Riverside with a B.S. in Mechanical
Engineering. I am very interested in starting my career in understanding manufacturing processes
while developing design and management experience. I have gained many skills in engineering
as a Mechanical Engineering Intern and would like to become an immediate contributor to your
team.
The following are highlights of my qualifications and accomplishments
I was highly recommended for the position of Student Success Counselor here in the
office of Bourns College of Engineering (Graduating with an overall 3.2 GPA).
Leadership skills are shown through being hired to be a Resident Advisor in the residence
halls here at UCR.
Applying engineering skills in a team of students working on our senior design project.
Worked on many projects as a Mechanical Engineering Intern for metal extrusion
company.
My strong leadership, passion for engineering, and time management skills allow me to perform
at my very best. I consider myself a hands-on individual that can work well with others and
under pressure. I enjoy applying the skills I have learned in school like understanding how
different processes work. Projects or assignments are always turned in on time and I am never
late for meetings or job shifts. I can create designs and test for safety using a program called
SolidWorks that can build 3-D models and create 2-D drawings.
I am looking forward to the opportunity to discuss with you how my skills and strengths can best
serve this company. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Miguel Angel Nevarez

BS, Mechanical Engineering
Experience
Sierra Aluminum Co. Internship
Mechanical Engineering Intern Summer 2014
As an Intern, I was given many projects and assignments. My first assignment was to observe
and understand the process of manufacturing of this metal extrusion company. My next project
was to work on reducing the amount of metal chips that are produced by the saw that cuts the
metal extrusions. Another project I was given was to design clarifiers that would filter any runoff
that accumulates on their parking lots. My last project was to observe and make
recommendations for a new filter press.
Trojan Battery UCR
Senior Design Project September 2013
I worked with a team of fellow Mechanical Engineering students on a project that would be
completed by the end of winter quarter of 2013. Our project's goal was to design a device that
would automatically test the strength of battery handles to failure. Our employer was Trojan
Battery Company and we were given twenty weeks to come up with an innovative design that
would be more efficient and time effective than the current model that was being employed at
their site

Student Success Counselor
I was a Success Counselor here at UCR. A Success Counselor is a resource that BCOE has to
offer students that are trying to figure out a plan or approach that will help them be successful at
UCR. Whether a student needs help managing time, study habits, locating resources, or finding
motivation, we as success counselors can help him/her with these struggles so that they can
eventually graduate from BCOE and become a successful Engineer.

Volunteer Summer 2012
My dad is a sheet metal fabricator and in this summer I learned how to read blueprints, respond
to customer requests, and learn about the business through both observation and performance.
