PERSONAL PROFILE
Graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering from Montana State University in May of 2012 and competed in Division
I track & field and football. The combination of a difficult curriculum and the responsibilities of a student athlete gave experience in
time management, teamwork, comradery, and hard work. These skills lead to success and allow a person to thrive and accomplish
goals in any environment. Hard work and dedication are important on a job, as well as being able to relax and enjoy their work. These
skill sets and traits are important in my approach to complete action items and responsibilities. As a young engineer, there is much to
learn and accomplish, but I have the drive and motivation to become a better engineer and person every day.
EXPERIENCE & EMPLOYMENT
Senior Production Engineer REC Silicon, Butte, MT (March 2013 –present)
Current Job Details:
•Oversee the hydrochlorination process of silicon tetrachloride to trichlorosilane, which involves managing the following equipment:
o Fluidized bed reactors
o Shell and tube heat exchangers
o Reboilers, columns, and condensers
o Separators and solid removal vessels
o Miscellaneous: Hydrogen compressors, pumps, filters, control valves, and various pressure and temperature instruments
•Oversee the distillation and redistribution process to produce ultra-pure silane, which involves the following equipment:
o Ten packed bed distillation columns over two separate units
o Four redistribution reactors over two separate units
o Two shell and tube heat exchangers over two separate units
o Four ammonia refrigeration compressors and two methanol-water chillers
o Miscellaneous: Reboilers, condensers, pumps, filters, control valves, and various pressure and temperature instruments
•Oversee the chlorosilanes recovery and waste neutralization unit, using a batch vaporization unit and a crude condensing system
•Typical responsibilities and daily tasks include:
o Coordinate and run production meetings covering plant issues, improvements, troubleshooting, and daily planning
o Management of projects including PSM covered processes, incidental changes, and programming projects. Projects include
management of change (MOC) paperwork, design reviews, and programming peer reviews
o Daily communication with field operators and digital control system operators to stay updated on production status
o Coordinate with project engineering to implement projects to improve process efficiency and provide in sight for potential
process improvements
o Work with maintenance and reliability on mechanical integrity, PM work, bad actors, and inspection scheduling
o Team member for continuous improvement task forces including chlorosilane recovery and waste neutralization, raw
materials, equipment upgrades, filters efficiency, and scrubber efficiency
o Continuous improvement efforts in both units involving lean six sigma techniques and tools
o Miscellaneous responsibilities: Incident investigations, various action items, purchase and service requisitions on SAP, writ e
maintenance work orders and job plans, SPC charts (Standard process controls), update production spreadsheets, data
analysis, basic lab skills, P&ID and isometric drawing redlines, procedure write -ups, lock-out tag-out sketches, and raw
material management.
Achievements: At REC Silicon, continuous improvement efforts have adopted many Six Sigma techniques. These methods were applied
to both the hydrochlorination process and the waste recovery/neutralization process. This continuous improvement effort proved to
be extremely effective in the waste recovery system. Efficiency increased by 120% while making the system less hazardous to operate.
The improvements also removed the need of constructing additional waste recovery units, which saved the company up to $5,000,000
in capital budget spending. These improvements were also made with zero or little costs, and focused on changes in programming,
operational procedures, and current equipment.
Other Areas of Experience: Statistical Process Controls (SPC’s), Microsoft Office, Outlook, SAP, P&ID’s, Isometrics, Troubleshooting,
Process Improvement, Redlines, Technical Writing (SOP’s, OJT’s, etc.), MathCAD, Apollo RCA, Pipe and Equipment Specifications, Weld
Travelers, Mechanical Integrity Reviews, Basic Lab Work (dilutions, gas chromatography, reactions, etc.), Process Flow Diagrams
(PFD’s), Tuning, Standard Integral Controls, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Internship/Contractor – REC Silicon, Butte, MT (May 2011 - August 2011, May 2012 - February 2013)
•Managed various PSM covered and incidental projects including the following:
•Redesign of a process vent header scrubber which reduced plugging and clean -up issues.
•Assigned service water pump analysis to determine pump flow efficiencies and wastes. Reduced pump power input by 33%.
•Audited project files from 2008 through 2012 to determine if any possible code violations or hazardous pipe stress conditions were
used on incoloy piping.
•Drove projects including MOC paperwork, redlines, and training documents for the addition of pressure instruments, flow
instruments, valves, pipe material changes, and process pip e line layouts.
Gallatin County Re-Entry Program (June 2010 through December 2010)
•Responsibilities: Regulated inmate’s activities, and monitored drug testing, prescription drug intake, and insulin injection.
