Summary of Experience and Qualifications

Matthew is a RHIA credentialed Healthcare Provider Information Technology practitioner with over three

years of experience in Health Information Technology implementations and integrations, all within the

revenue cycle space. Matthew has a particular interest in optimization work with revenue cycle

applications, analytical applications and revenue cycle operations. Matthew has project experience in all

phases of systems development life cycle Matthew was responsible for the success of Epic’s revenue

Project Experience

Testing Coordinator for Epic Implementation; 9 months.

University of North Carolina Healthcare System is a not for profit integrated health care system, owned by the

State of North Carolina. UNC’s implementation of the Epic system is Epics largest systems implementation to date

going live with three different hospitals over a very aggressive project timeline.

Role: Matt’s role as testing coordinator encompassed the planning, development, implementation and support of

an integrated testing model for the Epic system. The testing model was built to validate the workflows of full patient

life cycles utilizing all of the health systems Epic applications, interfaces and ancillary systems. 220 unique

workflows affected by across three entities were tested over 5 rounds of testing. Testing efforts included providing

SME exposure prior to system training and testing converted live production data in a support environment during

round 5. Matt was required to develop and execute a model that frequently evolved based on system build

requirements and issues. Matt managed the integrated testing room daily for 5 months which contained up to 25

analysts at any given time.

Project Associate for SAP BOE Migration and BI Transformation; 4 months.

University of Washington Medical Center: The BOE Migration project will include the technical implementation of

BusinessObjects, and transfer of Epic reporting capabilities to the new platform. Joining the project during its

planning phase, Matt was assigned to do an extensive analysis on Epic and Cognos Hospital Billing reports in

scope. Following this analysis, Matt was identified as an ideal candidate to be the HB reports development lead

and testing coordinator.

Role: Matt was brought onto the team to perform a low level analysis on 101 HB reports in scope to identify where

Epic model reporting content could be leveraged by the client during Release one. Following the analysis, Matt

transitioned to the reports development lead role where he obtained report requirements from business operations

and developed report specifications for Clarity report writers to use during the build phase. Matt continued in this

role, strategizing for the second release of reports and helped to develop a testing model to be leveraged by the

client for all future Business Intelligence projects. Leveraging the testing model, Matt evolved into the role of testing

coordinator for the second release of reports. Matt helped the client manage the Clarity report developers through

several successful report releases and reported status up to project leadership.

Project Associate for Revenue Cycle AR Stablization Effort; 2.5 months.

Cadence Health: Two hospital system based in Winfield, IL Jan 2013 March 2013

Following the Epic go live at the second hospital in the health system, Matt was assigned to assist with the

stabilization of the AR, specifically focusing on key metrics including: Candidate for Bill (CFB), Accounts

Receivable (AR) Days, and total AR.

Role: Matt was part of a two person team, reporting to the Sr. Director System Revenue Cycle Operations and

Director Patient Financial Services. Project scope included a system’s analysis to determine financial bottlenecks;

prioritization of issues; small scale workflow re design sessions; build and testing of system changes; and

engaging a client side SWAT team to assist with needed documentation, policy and procedure updates, and staff

training. In the two month time frame, Matt was able to reduce the client’s total CFB by 34%, Discharge Not Billed

(DNB) errors by 49%, and total AR days by 8.4% (down to a low of 39.3). All of these statistics represented the

client’s lowest metrics since their first hospital go live.

Hospital Billing Application Coordinator for Epic Integration; 11 months.

Delnor Community Hospital: Secondary hospital in a newly formed healthcare network; Cadence Health

based in Geneva, IL January 2011 – December 2012

Following the Epic go live at Central DuPage Hospital, Delnor Community Hospital merged with Central

DuPage Hospital and formed Cadence Health. Cadence Health retained Deloitte to assist with the

implementation of Enterprise Epic at Delnor hospital.

Role: Matt performed as Hospital Billing Application Coordinator. In this role, Matt was responsible for all

phases of system implementation including, discovery, build, testing, activation, and post live support.

Specific tasks include building and testing application configurations including charge testing with

clinical applications, workqueues and rules, payors and plans, user security, research studies, billing

reports, imports and exports. Matt facilitated vendor meetings to complete planning, specifications, build

and testing of imports and exports. He was responsible for leading the charge conversion activities

including full balancing between legacy AR, Epic AR, and Lawson GL. Matt developed hospital billing

activation/cutover plans and was responsible for facilitating completion of the related activities. The client

achieved a one percent variance in AR from baseline three weeks post go live.

Hospital Billing Application Coordinator for Epic Implementation; 4 months.

Central DuPage Hospital: Acute Care facility based in Winfield, IL Sep 2011 – January 2012

Implementing Epic since June 2010, Matt was assigned to join the core revenue cycle team to assist with pre and

post go live support activities.

Role: Contributed to build, testing and go live activation support and maintenance activities of the Resolute

Hospital Billing Application. Joining the project life cycle during the testing phase, Matt provided significant

integrated testing support and worked diligently with operational departments and communicated results of charge

testing with departmental and project team managers. Matt also contributed to go live efforts including command

center lead for the Hospital Billing Application and was a communication liaison for issue’s logged during the two

week post go live efforts.

Training Team/Enrollment Representative; 2 months.

Regional Health System that comprises several affiliated organizations that have been providing a

continuum of high quality health care services for over 150 years.

Role: Responsible for the direct support to hospital staff employees for enrollments into Epic’s CIS

training, over 5,000 employees. Responsible for training staff members to support the enrollment

process for pre and post go live training. Activities included: Manipulating Care Connect systems data

to reflect overall enrollment input, providing face to face service for emergency enrollment and

principal trainer requests, assisting with recommendations for workflow development, communicating

with physicians, nursing staff, departmental manager, and front/back end hospital users to ensure

accurate registration for Epic go live training.

Previous Experience

Associate Intern for HIM Director; 3 months.

Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago; Number 1 rehabilitation institute in America since 1991, RIC

operates a network of alliance hospitals and outpatient and day rehabilitation clinics throughout Illinois

and Indiana.

Role: Shadowed the HIM director’s daily routines, meetings, travel and interactions with staff

members in all departments. Attended Internal HIPAA, Audit, Security, IT, meetings gaining insight and

providing opinions. Activities included: Outpatient go live training for external record imaging, updating

JCAHO standards per RIC documentation, IP Coding, work with HIM staff members to streamline

processes and improve efficiency.
