PROJECT DETAILS:

Project Title: Automatic Detection of Retinal Optic Disk by means PCA and Mathematical Morphology

Abstract: Diabetic retinopathy is one of the leading disabling chronic diseases, and one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in the world. Early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy enables timely treatment and in order to achieve it a major effort will have to be invested into screening programs and especially into automated screening programs. The algorithm proposed here allows automatically segment the optic disc from a fundus image. The goal is to facilitate the early detection of certain pathologies and to fully automate the process so as to avoid specialist intervention. The method proposed for the extraction of the optic disc contour is mainly based on mathematical morphology along with principal component analysis (PCA).
