Walter E. Wolf

President, Association of Old Crows 2006, 2007, and 2011

“From 2005 through 2013, Don Richetti initiated the turn-around of the Association of Old Crows (AOC). His expertise in

association matters, leadership and management saved the association from a near decade-long decline of poor fiscal discipline,

quagmire of conflicting governances, dysfunctional staff and a Board of Directors that had lost strategic vision. By the end of 2006,

Don created a budget process that was based on a defined chart of accounts commensurate with acceptable accounting principles

resulting in fiscal stability and predictability to the present.

Don led the development of a planning process that brought the Board of Directors into strategic alignment. Don reorganized the

AOC Staff and assigned roles and responsibilities that enabled the staff to increase corporate sponsorship from less than 50 to over

200, revitalized the relevance to internal and external AOC stakeholders (customers), and more than triple the number of conferences

critical to the AOC’s customer base. Don stabilized the AOC investment account strategy before the 2008 downturn and avoided

significant losses.

The greatest contribution Don made to the AOC was to provide the guiding but firm direction to the association to realign, revitalize,

and rejuvenate the Association of Old Crows. Simply put, he was the right person at the right time to save the AOC. Along with many

other members of the AOC Board of Directors, I am forever thankful for Don’s dedication and commitment to make the AOC a better

association.”

John Knowles

Editor, Journal of Electronic Defense 2006-Present

“I have worked closely with Don, first as his employee and then as my client, since 2006. I have seen first hand how he helped to turn

around the AOC, a non-profit organization of defense and military professionals, after it had struggled to define its basic identity for

more than a decade.

Don introduced association best practices, challenged board members to develop a strategy that addressed AOC credibility and

relevance, and guided the AOC down a path that restored financial stability. In order to achieve this, he had to work with a board of

directors that was often divided into two or sometimes more factions across multiple issues. Don was able to get the board members

focused on the underlying issues that drove their deep divisions and get everyone pointed in a single direction to create a strategy that

every one could follow.

What I found particularly impressive was Don's ability to achieve these goals without being an expert in the field of electronic

warfare. He developed a staff of industry experts (myself included) and then led us in a way that enabled the staff to make sound

recommendations to the AOC board.

What I learned from Don is that you do not need to be an expert in the electronic warfare field in order to successfully lead an

electronic warfare association. I think Don would be able to apply his understanding of strategy and his experience in association

management to other organizations.”

Shelley Frost, CMP

AOC Deputy Executive Director, Meetings & Logistics 2005-Present

“I worked for Don for eight years as the Deputy Executive Director, Meeting Logistics at the Association of Old Crows (AOC). In

my 18-year association career, Don is the best supervisor for whom I’ve had the opportunity to work. He has a very strong knowledge

of association management and is extremely hardworking and dedicated. Don is a person of integrity and is one of the most honest

and fair people I know. He is a terrific supervisor and a flexible, friendly and caring boss.

Don was always willing to help his staff grow in their jobs. He took an active interest in the staff’s continuing education. He wanted

us to grow and become experts in our field. He is extremely approachable and took time to walk around the office and talk to us every

day. We all knew he cared as much about us as he did about the AOC. Don’s varied life experiences make him a wise and

trustworthy mentor not only to me but to everyone at AOC. The staff sorely misses how he made coming to work enjoyable every

day. I would leave any job to work for him again.”

John D. Folse, CEC, AAC

Past President and Chairman of the Board, American Culinary Federation

“Don’s ability to build a team under adversity, while assessing the challenges before him and determining solutions to problems is

beyond reproach. In less than two years, Don had taken an antiquated system and groomed it into a well-organized, well-managed

national office with clear departmental objectives and, most importantly, a secure financial and investment policy. What was even

more remarkable was the fact that at the same time, Don had to oversee publishing a national monthly magazine, research, purchase

and install a complete computer system while orchestrating four regional meetings, two board meetings and a national convention. I

would recommend Don for any position he deems appropriate to apply for.”

Chester R. Surmaczewicz, Jr., CEC, AAC

Chapter President, American Culinary Federation

“I have been professionally associated with Mr. Richetti since 1994. As a member of the ACF, serving in both elected and appointed

positions, I have had the opportunity to work with him, and to observe his professional abilities and management skills. Mr. Richetti

has always presented the highest of moral and ethical standards. He is a true leader who has demonstrated understanding and vision.

Under his management, the staff of the ACF national office produced only quality work under very tight budgetary constraints. As a

member of the ACF’s Internal Audit Committee, I am personally knowledgeable of Mr. Richetti’s ability to develop and implement

programs dealing with the financial, operational, administrative, recruiting and communications (internal and external) aspects of

association management.

His impact on the ACF was immediate and profound. Each of his innovative programs was well received and produced projected

results. Mr. Richetti identified and corrected serious deficiencies in the financial, administrative and operational practices of the ACF.

Problems in each area were more serious than can be described in this letter. It is enough to say that Mr. Richetti’s decisive and bold

management saved the ACF from serious legal and financial difficulties.

In addition to these conditions, Mr. Richetti spearheaded a complete restructuring of our three organizations that stimulated

unprecedented growth in record time in membership and in the value of the ACF financial resources and reserves. Mr. Richetti places

great value on interpersonal relationships and even greater value on personal integrity and principle. He is calm in the face of pressure

and steady when confronted with difficulty. He is resolute in his belief that the welfare of the ‘members’ is paramount.”

V. J. (Jim) Adduci

Past Chairman, Automotive Hall of Fame, Inc.

Retired President, Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (MVMA)

Retired Chairman, National Commission Against Drunk Driving

“Mr. Richetti is particularly well qualified in the administrative and management fields. His perspicacity, initiative, and driving

ambition to excel in every endeavor attempted, and his superior knowledge of good business practice give me good reason to

recommend this man for any management position of responsibility. He is a self-reliant individual -- dignified and reserved but not

stiff. He quickly adapts himself to changing situations and is always dependable, sincerely tolerant, logical and well informed.

He is always one step ahead. He is quiet in manner but resourceful, enthusiastic, ingenious, and circumspect. Mr. Richetti is well-

rounded in all phases of his work, and possessed of a keen, calculating mind. His incisive, analytical thinking and tireless attention to

duty make him a candidate of more than ordinary ability.

Mr. Richetti is an individual with a polished manner, a keen sense of humor, and charming personality that radiates enthusiasm even

under adverse conditions. He is a facile, but not loquacious talker. In selecting this individual you will obtain an outstanding ability,

wide experience, broad views, great moral courage, charm, patience, tenacity of purpose, and fine character in whom intelligence,

force, common sense, and judgment are unusually well balanced. He is absolutely dependable and inspires devotion and enthusiasm in

his subordinates. He is a born leader. I recommend him without qualification.”

James L. Pfeifer

Chairman, Dealer Policy Board, Ford Motor Company

“Mr. Richetti possesses unique skills in achieving broad goals through consensus decision-making and management. He is a strong

organization person in the sense that he understands the multi-faceted role that a departmental or agency head must fulfill in meeting

the organization's goals.

Mr. Richetti is very receptive to others' opinions. He is bright and articulate and is able to relate the significance of one event or

achievement to another. Mr. Richetti has demonstrated the mentality of an executive planner and the results orientation of a shop

foreman.”
