Title: ORISE Fellow Bethesda, MD
Food and Drug Administration 07/2009-Present
• Design experiments and generate protocols to determine if it is safe and efficient to
use mesenchymal stem cells as a therapy for ischemic injuries. I use a murine
peripheral artery disease (PAD) model, which entails performing femoral artery ligation
survival surgery, as well as an in vitro aortic ring assay to evaluate angiogenesis.
• Image using multiple modalities, including a micro CT and laser Doppler
• Research relevant publications
• Create spreadsheets, 3D models, and graphs
• Organize data in an efficient manner
• Prepare presentations, comprehensive summaries, and reports
• Train and manage a technician
• Train other fellows and staff scientists in procedures

• Maintained and organized financial records pertaining to purchases
• Ordered reagents and supplies for the labs
• Trained new technicians
• Maintained standard lab equipment
• Created spreadsheets and organized data
• For the Haag lab, I assisted a graduate student, Qinwen Liu, on a project investigating
the role of PUF proteins in sex determination of the nematode Caenorhabditis
briggsae.
• For the Bely lab, I worked independently on several projects designed by the principle
investigator, Alexa Bely, and focused on investigating the evolution of regenerative
abilities in annelids.
Title: Biological Aide Beltsville, MD
APHIS Plant Quarantine Facility 05/2007-06/2008
• Performed various molecular biology tests and bioassays
• Maintained accurate records and organized data
• Performed greenhouse work, including planting, watering, transplanting, pruning,
organizing, and running bioassays
• Assisted facility scientists and technicians with various tasks and procedures
Title: Field Assistant Washington, DC
UMCES Appalachian Laboratory 04/2007-11/2008
• Surveyed designated plots for bird and bat carcasses
• Surveyed designated plots for the existing bird community via sight and sound
Title: Lab Technician College Park, MD
Haag Laboratory at UMD 01/2007-06/2008
• Prepared solutions, reagents, E. coli cultures, and agar media using aseptic technique
• Maintained general lab organization

nematodes, aquatic annelids, birds, and a variety of plants
• Perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, bright field
microscopy, fluorescence microscopy, confocal microscopy, ELISA,
immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, cell culture, isolation of stem cells,
cryopreservation, Luciferase assay, animal survival surgery (femoral artery ligation),
Laser Doppler imaging, CT scanning, bioluminescent imaging, mouse colony breeding
and maintenance, plant bioassays, grafting on multiple agricultural plants,
transformation by particle bombardment, restriction enzyme digestion
Awards Received:
• APHIS- for learning multiple DNA and RNA extraction techniques and processing a
large number of samples efficiently.
• APHIS- for commendable quality of work and for performing at a level above my
grade.
