PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

AIR PRODUCTS INC, Allentown, PA

Principal Research Technician 1978 - 2012

• Provided support to PHD researchers by procuring, fabricating, and assembling laboratory equipment required for a specific task including the compilation of experimental data obtained.

Reactor Oriented

• Setup Dynamic reactor system using gas phase HF for etching. Although deadline for experimental data was an aggressive period, six weeks, experimental data was obtained before the deadline.

• Manipulated a 20 gallon reactor for scale up of material to be used in a company process.

• Set up 100ml reactors for corrosion studies on various metals.

• Manipulated a reactor system using SF4 as reactant for organic synthesis.

• Fluorinated inorganic materials via a dynamic fluorination reactor using the first dynamic fluorination reactor assembled in a research laboratory.

• Made polyamines using trickle bed and batch reactor systems. Products were identified by GC

• Performed cyclic amine synthesis using a trickle bed reactor. Purification by simple distillation to use of Older Shaw columns. Confirmation of product by GC.

• Successfully accomplished diamond deposition onto silicon substrates using a high vacuum - hot filament reactor. Evaluated substrate surface by optical and scanning electron microscope.

Material Development

• Enhanced the adsorptive capacity of zeolitic materials by cation deposition, then measured the adsorptive capacity by microbalance and volumetric absorptive apparatus, employing high vacuum systems.

• Played key role in custom catalysts by depositing inorganic metals and nonmetals by absorption and surface precipitation. Characterized these materials by TGA,XRD,XRF

• Produced Silicate membranes for separation of specific gases. GC method work was required for proper analysis of the effluent gas mix, including the procurement of the optimum GC column packing material.

Synthesis

• Synthesized enhanced polyols for coating applications used of an IR for monitoring reaction progress.

• Synthesized silizanes via airless system. These silizanes were used for coating applications.
