Technical writing course Details (January-March2014)

betterment of the company’s business. I have completed the DTC (Diploma in Technical Communication)

course conducted by Technowrites Pvt. Ltd.

Technical writing Assignments:

• Writing a concept note

I created a concept note on Microwave oven. To write the concept note, I studied the functionalities

and various operations of the available oven and also visited various websites. I explained the

concept of microwaves used in a microwave oven. I created the diagram of microwave oven with

callouts in Microsoft Word using various shapes to explain different parts of an oven.

• Writing a recipe

I wrote a recipe of preparing Kande Pohe. To write the recipe, I listed down the required contents and

steps to prepare the dish and actually prepared the dish. I captured and inserted the photographs of

the recipe in the procedure writing for better presentation and understanding.

• Describing a dialog box

I selected the Open dialog box for description. I performed the procedure to view the Open dialog

box and noted down the steps. Then, I captured the screenshot of the dialog box and gave callouts

as an illustration. I created styles for the steps to explain how to open and view the dialog box. I

explained the dialog box using ordered list.

• Preparing MOM (Minutes of the Meeting)

I attended the meeting for the ONEX (Online Examination System) application developed by

Knowgence Technologies Pvt. Ltd. I noted down the important points, action items discussed in

the meeting, and the other required items of the MOM such as attendees, distribution list, date,

time, and venue. Then, I created minutes of the meeting according to the template provided by

Technowrites, and shared that with the distribution lists.

• Creating Administrator’s Guide for ONEX using MS Word

On the basis of requirement of the ONEX Administrator’s guide, I created the TOC and get

that approved from the SMEs. After the approval, I created a template in Microsoft Word,

and created content as per the approved TOC. I created differed styles in the template, and

described various functionalities and procedures in the guide. I captured various screenshots

to insert in the guide.

• Creating Administrator’s Guide for ONEX using Adobe RoboHelp

I studied the scope of work and created the TOC for the help. After getting the approval, I

created a project, topics, and different styles in the RoboHelp. As per the TOC structure I created

content for the Administrator’s guide and added Index and Glossary to the project. I generated

the .HTML and .chm outputs of the guide.

• Creating Administrator’s Guide for ONEX in frame Maker

I studied the scope of work and created the TOC for help. After getting the approval I

created a new document in FrameMaker and added books and documents to it. I created

paragraph and character styles in FrameMaker.

• Drawing Concept Map on Soft skills

I studied the basic concept of concept map. I selected the concept of soft skills to draw a

map. I listed down the related fields, domains, people, and other areas of soft skills. On the

basis of my understanding, I drew the map on the paper and presented in the DTC class.

• Inserting and Illustrating Screenshots using Snagit

I studied various options and effects of Snagit, which is an image capturing tool. I captured

various screenshots of the various functionalities of Snagit. I explained the tool in Microsoft

Word by inserting table, images, and detailed description.

• Creating a Drawing of the Keyboard in MS Word

I created the drawing of keyboard of my laptop using different shapes in Microsoft Word.

While creating the replica of the keyboard, I used various effects for the shapes.

• Creating a coffee table book

I studied and understood the concept of coffee table book. I listed out the topics on which

we could create the book. As it was a team work, we divided the tasks and topics amongst

us. We finalized the topic “Rivers the lifelines”. We selected the famous rivers, collected

information, discussed the structure of the book, and finalized the TOC. Taking the book

structure into consideration, we added images and photographs to the book to make that

crisp and interesting. After getting the hard copy of the book, we presented the book in the

DTC class.
