WORK EXPERIENCE

Research Chemist at Chemtura Corporation., West Lafayette, IN (Sept 2011 - present)

• Designing and executing new synthetic routes for environment friendly brominated flame retardants.

• Developing and implementing process improvements to optimize production processes and provide technical support.

• Modification of existing flame retardants to meet customer requirements.

• Optimizing the chemical processes and scaling up the new processes to pilot.

• Reports on project status to management.

• Keeping abreast of technical developments in the flame retardants arena.

• Offer suggestions for improvements in laboratory procedures, follows general lab practices and rules to maintain a safe and

productive environment.

• Comply with all safety regulations and ISO quality and environmental standards. Make recommendations towards the

Research work at University of Dayton Research Institute., Dayton, OH

Synthesis of non-halogenated flame retardants for polyurethane foams (Dec 2009 - Sept 2011)

• Designed and executed research plans for new practical flame retardant chemistries for polyurethane foams.

• Successfully synthesized phosphorous and boron based reactive polyols and additive flame retardants.

• Characterized the compounds by using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), PCFC, DSC and Cone Calorimeter.

• Systematically documented the results and achievements.

• Supervised undergraduate students.

Quantum dots based large area flexible polymeric films for photovoltaic applications (Aug 2009 - Nov 2009)

• Investigated synthetic routes for capping quantum dots with bio-compatible polymers.

• Selected precursors, reaction time, surface capping, and temperature as they play important role in size and distribution of

QDs in polymer matrix.

• Synthesized CdS and CdSe nanoparticles in confined matrix of Polyurethane (PU) Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)

Polydimethoxysilane (PDMS).

Preparation of Sol-Gel polymer for sensor application (Apr 2009 - July 2009)

• Synthesized sol-gel polymer by using molecular imprinting technique using acid as a catalyst.

• Template molecules like nicotine were placed in pre-polymer precursors (polystyrene or acrylates) and polymerized around

the template.

Insulation of electrical cables by using polyimide films (Dec 2008 - Mar 2009)

• Improve thermal resistance, corrosion resistance, flexibility and strength of nickel coated copper wires and Teflon wires by

coating with polyimide solution.

• Solvent was selected to make polyimide solution to achieve the desired properties.

• The solution has been coated onto the wires and tested in the laboratory.

• Then the solution has been scaled up for pilot plant applications and the properties inspected again.

Research work at Osmania University, India (Jan 2007- Mar 2008)

Effect of conduction on freezing in cylindrical containers

• Studied the effect of conduction on freezing in cylindrical containers of varying diameters using samples of

1. n-Octadecane 2. Paraffin wax.

• Developed a relation between freezing time and temperature.
