Hiring Manager:
It is with great interest that I apply for an environmental, health, and safety position. I am confident that my combination of education and over ten years’ experience in the environmental, health, and safety (EHS) field will be a great addition to your staff.
I have just completed the final term of a Master’s of Science in Environmental, Safety, and Health Management from the University of Findlay. During my recent tenure at Hoyt Archery, I have been able to marry both my graduate and undergraduate education with my previous EHS experience. This has helped me to lay the groundwork for an EHS program that was previously non-existent at the small company. I have done so by educating management and staff of regulations, policies, and practices. The emphasis of the program has been to achieve compliance while balancing company initiatives, values, commitments, and the bottom line. Having knowledge of both EHS and business management, I provide a unique prospective on the impact that compliance implementation has on business operations and can use that knowledge to communicate compliance to management and staff in a clear and simple manner.
My experience in the EHS field comes from my current tenure at Hoyt Archery, as a Consultant/Owner for my own consulting firm, and as a long-term intern at Honda R&D Americas. In my time, I have gained a great deal of experience in all safety programs, regulations, training, and compliance. I have created and/or revised over a dozen safety and health programs, created corporate SOPs, training, supporting documents, and record-keeping. I have also developed corporate programs for compliance with RCRA, SARA, SPCC, SWPPP and SERC regulations.
My responsibilities have also included performing pre-accident inspections and remediation to remove potential hazards, as well as post-accident investigations to determine root cause and implement corrective action. I have conducted various personal and area industrial hygiene sampling for chemicals and other hazardous exposures. I have also been responsible for injury reporting, record -keeping and workers compensation.
Safety is a team effort and I have worked with senior management of an international corporation, as well as front line employees and Supervisors to coordinate efforts, share ideas, and develop ownership of programs. I have conducted monthly safety committee meetings co mprised of management and staff from all levels of an organization and have lead teams for several company -wide projects and events.
I am an experienced public speaker and others find me to be approachable and friendly. I have
experience conducting over one hundred training courses related to safety and environmental activities at all levels of the organization, as well as in several other disciplines. I have experience coaching, leading, and managing people, including improving performance, providing guidance, developing employees and issuing corrective action when appropriate. I also have extensive experience managing projects.
I maintain an excellent knowledge of safety and environmental systems and practices, in addition to a working knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. I am committed to my work and have a passion for employee safety and environmental compliance combined with a firm dedication to organizational goals. I trust you will find me to be well-spoken, energetic, confident, passionate, personable, a valuable addition to your team and a person on whom other employees will rely.
I greatly appreciate that you took the time to review my credentials and experience. I hope that you will find my experience and skills intriguing enough to warrant a face-to-face meeting, and I am confident that I can provide value to you, as a member of your team. Feel free to contact me any time via the information listed on my included resume.
Sincerely,
Daniel W. Dilts
