Projects
BGP Implementation & Optimization in i2cinc Pakistan,Washington and Fremont Data Centers
i2cinc Pakistan
Goal:
o
To configure the BGP in i2cinc Pakistan branches of Karachi and Lahore of
communication with each other on i2cinc public IP Pool and eliminate any impact if one
side goes down.
APNIC has assigned only one IP Block against BGP Number 58602 which was further
divided into two Blocks using subnetting, one for Lahore network and other for Karachi
Network.
Achievement:
o
Completed goal successfully through optimize BGP parameters such as MED, Local
preference and weight.
i2cinc Washington and Fremont Data Centers
Goal:
o
To configure and optimize BGP in i2cinc Washington and Fremont Data Centers.
Inbound traffic comes from ISP (A) and ISP (B) as desired but outbound traffic used
only ISP (A) while ISP (B) remained unused for outgoing traffic due to design flaw.
Achievement:
o
Introduced Cisco IOS Embedded Event Manager (EEM) to detect ISP (B)
disconnectivity and take decision automatically for proper bandwidth utilization of
outgoing traffic.
Performance Routing (PfR) in i2cinc Network for better utilization of the Internet Bandwidth
Goal:
o
To utilize proper bandwidth in i2cinc Lahore Network to avoid voice traffic degradation
for call center.
The practice of using Policy based Routing technique (PBR) with probing mechanism
(tracking the ISP) to detect ISP failure that was not efficient for diagnosing problems
such as delay, loss, reachability, jitter and throughput.
Achievement:
o
Introduce Performance Routing (PfR) for avoiding voice traffic degradation for call
center of i2cinc if one of i2cinc service provider faced BGP Convergence, Delay, Loss,
Reachability, Throughput and Jitter.
Make Intellectual Mechanism to change traffic from one ISP (A) and ISP (B) without
disturbing the production traffic specially voice traffic.
Implement and Configure CISCO IPS in all i2cinc Data Centers
Goal & Achievement:
o
To configure CISCO IPS in inline mode with help of CISCO IME
To make and tune the signature for offending traffic.
To make and tune Meta signature to avoid False Positive alarming.
Make customized signature with help of regex for detecting offending traffic.
Make customized signature to Block social websites (facebook) for http and https.
Implement and configure Netflow in all i2cinc Data Centers
Goals
o
To Implement and Design NetFlow for i2c Data Centers for
Analyze new applications and their network impact
Reduction in peak WAN traffic
Troubleshooting and understanding network pain points
Detection of unauthorized WAN traffic
Security and anomaly detection
Validation of QoS parameters
Monitoring Tools:
Cacti, Nagios, OpenNMS, Xymon and observium.
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Lahore Pakistan
Research Associate May 2011 –August 2011
Developed “A Unified Model for Automated Troubleshooting In Service Provider Networks”. The
increase number and complexity of technologies in today computer network brings more difficulties for
diagnosis network problems. The “problem management” is one of the key function areas of network
management. Today’s, we are using many manual methods for problem diagnosis and recovery. Purposed a
framework for automated network troubleshooting (ANT) which will provide a flexible and scalable
infrastructure for Network Troubleshooting.
The developed system finds out the path between source and destination network, the faulty devices in
that path and isolates the fault in each device.
The planned should be further ANT model into several directions so it can achieve level 3 of IBM
Autonomics computing behavior level. Topology and rules description languages, network fault
taxonomy, integrating the existing network management tool and case based analyzing technique will be
developed
