The primary duties of a Correctional Officer in the Correctional, is to

maintain the overall security of the institution and the managing of the

inmate population. The Correctional Service Department runs a 24 hr shift,

seven days a week, monitoring inmate movement and accountability, these are

done with the use of daily head counts, periodic census counts,

callout/change sheets and detail rosters. To keep control of contraband,

Officers performed area searches (common area), cell searches and for

inmates them self, we performed pat searches and strip searches.

Correctional services Department was also responsible for the

accountability for all and every tool, every drill bit, razor blade, screw

drive was accounted for by the corrections officer, including the utensils

in Food Service

Production Supervisor

Unicor Federal Prison Industries Estill

F.C.I. Estill,

Supervision of over 40 inmates.

A) Tool Room Officer: Restructured UNICOR's tool program to remove outdated

tools and implement a replacement program for warrantee tools. Responsible

for over 3000 tools, including purchase and removal, in the UNICOR Factory.

B) Maintenance Supervisor: Responsible for all maintenance of UNICOR

factory and equipment, including creating and delegating work assignments

to inmates as well as ordering requisite materials. Added 5000 square feet

within the factory which includes a paint/dry booth, installation of panel

boxes, lights, outlets, water lines, and natural gas lines. Organized

construction of a mixing booth using two paint booths complete with lights

and exhaust as well as installation of two 14' X16' automated roll up

doors. Increased machine shop size and added power outlets. Rebuilt the 12'

X 30' blast room with new drive motors and wiring, added 1/2" steel plate

walls, and installed a free standing/low profile mono-rail inside.

Organized and planned the redesign of factory production flow by removing

the old paint and aisle markings, building new work stations, relocating

the testing and shipping areas. Acquired three package units for A/C and

heating from DRMO, Rewired and installed into the new paint booth building,

for climate control. This saved UNICOR $25,000. These units where designed

for use overseas using 400Hz to 60hz used in the USA. I receive approval

for the building of a 64,000 sqft addition to the UNICOR factory including

roll up doors, electric, lights and shelving.

C) Starter-Line Supervisor: Responsible for the complete tear down of the

starter testing field coil, armature, solenoid and brushes, replacing worn

items as needed and then reassemble, painting, testing, warehousing and

shipping.

D) Power-Train Line Supervisor: Responsible for repair and remanufacture of

turbo 400 and 4L80-E transmissions, transfer case, differential drive,

steering gears and power steering pumps for military HUMVEEs. Other duties;

rebuilding transmissions, differential drives and drive axles for the fork

lift remanufacturing line and purchasing parts based on price and

availability.

E)) Paint shop and Sandblaster Supervisor: was responsible for the sand

blasting and painting of various components dealing with the production

lines, for the operation of the factory and for various other departments

that worked in the Institution. These tasks were accomplished with the use

of a portable soda blaster, "big blue" a walk-in sandblast booth, three

small sandblast cabinets and two tumblers. The components would next be

sent to the paint shop were I had a double bay paint and dry booth designed

to handle busses.

Facilities Department/ Federal Prison Estill

Federal Correctional Institution Estill,

Utilities Systems Repair Operator Supervisor

Transferred to FCI Estill to assist in the activation of the new

institution and provided assistance to the Chief of Utilities in training

the new facilities staff; responsible for implementing a shift rotation

schedule for five boiler operators, established a tool room and ordered the

tools needed for daily operation and maintenance of the powerhouse and the

surrounding institution. Operations of the powerhouse consisted of two

500ton York Chillers, two 1,700,000 Btu hr Bryan hot water heating boilers

for building heat, three PVI domestic hot water heaters, two 750kw back-up

generators with Onan controls and two Precision steam boilers, with the

entire institutions heating and cooling, pneumatic and electronic controls

operated from the central plants Delta net graphic computer. Assisted in

setting up a preventive maintenance program for the facilities department

then established a list of vendors and points of contact for parts and

services. Responsible for the installation of an automatic chemical

injection / bottom blow controls for the two foodservice steam boilers,

rebuilding PVI domestic hot water heaters thus saving the institution over

$400,000; revised the contracts for the York Chillers incorporating the

requirement of comprehensive inspections of the chillers, thus increasing

the finances for any major repairs. Responsible for implementing the

contract for the Cummin-Onan emergency generators. Maintained record for

the institution's monthly utilities expenses for water, sewage, natural

gas, electricity, phone, trash removal and diesel, as well as establishing

a daily log book to record the operation of the powerhouse and after-hour's

repairs in the institution. Established water analysis programs with

various chemical companies, performed water analysis on chiller water,

boiler water and cooling tower water and added the chemicals as needed.

Incorporated an hourly log for the inmates to records equipment operations.

Federal Bureau of Prisons, Fort Dix

Welding & Plumbing Supervisors

Responsible for starting-up and establishing the standard operating

procedures of the Welding Shop during the activation of the Federal

Correctional Institution, Fort Dix. Assisted in training the Weld Shop

Supervisor in the policies and procedures of the Bureau of Prison,

including the duties and expectation towards working with inmates, tool

control and minor / major work requests. Planned, organized, and

distributed the daily work assignments for staff and inmates resulting in

the establishment of a secure control room / armory and installation of

security screens over all the first floor windows. Responsible for

establishing the plumbing shop and training of staff and inmates in the

areas of procurement of resources and tool room operations. Responsible for

the construction of a medical building with three doctors offices, four

examining rooms with sinks, two dental chairs with water and drain, X-ray

room with a sink and water supply, two suicide rooms with combination sink

and toilet and a complete handicapped bathroom with shower. Refurbished the

old barracks for present and future inmate housing unites, installed new

flush valves, sinks and toilets as needed. Renovated an old food service /

dining hall into two warehouses. Revamped and improved the Visitation

building by incorporating four handicapped accessible bathrooms, two for

visitors, one bathroom for staff, and one for inmates. Refurbished the

receiving and discharge building by building six holding cells.

Federal Correctional Institution Danbury

Powerhouse Operator/ Maintanence Supervisor

Responsible for operation and maintenance of the powerhouse. This includes

three 300 hp / 15000 lb per hr steam boilers, one back-up power generator,

two Leslie instant-hot domestic hot water heaters, two 1000 gallon hot

water storage tanks, a condensate storage tank, a DA tank, and chemical

injection tanks for the steam boilers and various condensate pumps.

Supervised contractors during removal of the 18,000 gallon below ground

fuel tanks, running the natural gas line to the powerhouse, installing new

sprinkler lines, and asbestos abatement.

Provided assistance to the architect and engineering firms responsible for

redesigning institution's steam and condensate system.

Provided direct back-up support to the Plumbing Supervisor, Welding

Supervisor, and HVAC Supervisor.

As directed and when necessary, perform staff escort functions and on-call

emergency maintenance Supervisor for after hour repairs.
