To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing in regards to your advertised opportunity for a full-time position as a Graphic Designer. I believe I
am a qualified candidate with the skills, innovation, and design background to be an asset to your company.
The contribution I can make to your company is well-exemplified by my educational background, passion for
design, and unique work experiences. In 2003, I graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh (AIP) with an
Associate Degree, majoring in Graphic Design. My education at AIP was specialized, but it exposed me to a
variety of art mediums, including photography. Upon graduation, I completed a Graphic Design internship for
fashion designer Catherine Malandrino in New York City, where I honed the skills I developed at AIP, was
exposed to a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment, and worked cooperatively on complex projects with
teams of other individuals. Upon completion of the internship, I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Graphic Design, worked to improve my design abilities and software use through unique freelance
opportunities, and acquired five years of significant work experience as a graphic designer for an image-
building center in Mishawaka, IN. As the current and sole graphic designer for this firm, my adaptability,
organizational, and time management skills are extremely important. In this position, I have worked with a
variety of design and layout applications from the creation through production stages. Some of these
applications include but are not limited to typography, visual design, signage, publications, advertising,
branding, and web store design. I have a strong desire to expand these skills, and am excited about the
possibility of even acquiring new skills as a result of collaborating with other creative and passionate
individuals.
Please see the attached resume detailing my education, design experience, skills, and software knowledge, and
preview my portfolio at http://www.coroflot.com/dschmitt. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you in order
to share work from my portfolio and discuss how my credentials can help meet your expectations. I have a
strong desire to be a part of your creative unit and believe that my work ethic and passion for design are
consistent with your business strategy. Please contact me by phone at 574-***-**** or by email at
************@***.***. I appreciate your time and look forward to discussing the future with you.
Sincerely,
David Schmitt
