Relevant Experience
University of Brighton, 2010-2011. MSc Applied Exercise Physiology with Merit
Devised and carried out a final year project lasting 3 months researching “Extracellular Hsp72
concentration relates to a minimum endogenous criteria during acute exercise-heat exposure”.
Working with county level athletes. This study has been reviewed and published in a peer
reviewed journal Cell Stress and Chaperones.
Developed an understanding of physiological testing techniques including blood analysis,
monitoring of hydration and ventilatory measures.
Completed a placement working as a research assistant working on a PhD study researching heat
acclimation in games players. Able to lead experiments and monitor subjects when left in charge.
University of Brighton. 2006-2009 BSc Hons Sports Science (2:1)
Completed a final year project spending two months working in research laboratory gaining
experience working on and organising testing. “Are the endurance performance gains from
intermittent hypoxic exposure lost when 3000m runners are hypohydrated?”
Gained experience in a diverse range of disciplines including strength and conditioning,
functional physiology, biomechanics, physiological and environmental physiology.

Volunteer Manager
Managed groups of 10-14 volunteers aged 17-25 overseeing and participating in three projects in
remote locations with basic living conditions. My responsibilities included the role of safety
supervisor, facilitator, counsellor, and instructor, with overall responsibility for the projects and
expedition success.
Led an induction programme consisting of theoretical and practical exercises designed to prepare
the Venturers for the rigours of the expedition.
Inspired and motivated volunteers to complete a 250km self-sufficient trek across Nicaragua.
Raleigh International (Borneo). Volunteer October 2009-December 2009
Worked within a team to carry out environmental and community based projects, including forest
regeneration and construction of community schools.
Developed relationships and worked with people from a wide range of nationalities and
backgrounds. Effectively led a team of volunteers in an extreme environment communicating
ideas well and implementing effective solutions to problems faced by a lack of technology.

Worked as physiological support for the filming of a television programme.
I gained practical experience devising physiological tests to achieve physiological responses
specified by the company. This included tests to exhibit the effects of exhaustive sprint exercise
and hyperthermic, hypothermic and hypoxic environments.

Perform health assessments helping clients to understand their general health and identify future
health risks providing lifestyle action plans and practical medical advice to a wide range of
clients.
Practical experience of physiological testing including venipuncture, electrocardiograms,
urinalysis and body composition measures.
Experience of running a pathology laboratory ensuring clients receive their results on the same

John Lewis Plc, Waitrose. Checkout Supervisor December 2005-February 2013
Maintained the highest standard of customer service associated with John Lewis.
Planning of staffing requirements to ensure store teams are correctly allocated to meet business
needs, whilst communicating issues effectively to line managers.
Managed the checkout section monitoring checkout personnel and ensuring customers are served

Responsible for the supervision of children aged 8-17 on a day-to-day basis ensuring their safety
and welfare, whilst undertaking a range of adventure and sporting activities.
Learned and applied new skills as an outdoor adventure specialist working in a high-risk
environment. As part of a team devised and implemented new mountain biking and hiking
activities.
Liaised with fellow counsellors and parents to ensure children coped well with being away from
home.
