Project Experience
School Projects:
Screw Driver/Air Motor (2013)
These were both projects from my machining class at Cal Poly (IME143). Each student
created their own screw driver using a lathe and set of dimensions. Later in the course we
were put into groups and turned into an assembly line, with each person in charge of
machining multiple copies of one part to give back to the group for everyone to assemble.
I received an A in this course.
Smart Blinds- H.S Senior Project (2013)
Senior year project. Class was split-up into four groups. The objective was to create a
product for the average in-home consumer that incorporated the use of an Arduino
microcontroller. My group came up with the idea of automatic blinds, hence
“BrightBLINDS.” The slats of the blinds automatically opened and closed in a smooth
live motion based on the light intensity the microcontroller reads from inside the room.
Solar Car Competition- Lead Mechanical Engineer (2011-2013)
This was a 3 year project team. Our goal was to complete the most laps around Texas
Motor Speedway in a competition known as the Winston Solar Car Challenge against
other Solar Car Teams around the nation. We designed, funded, built, and raced a full
sized car that ran simply on the electricity it generated from the sun’s rays. I joined the
team as a sophomore and specialized on brakes, wheels, and fabrication. Later became
the Lead Mechanical Engineer for the team and was successful in making sure we met
deadlines of the race.
Engineers without Borders (2012-2013)
Appeared as a guest on FOX4 News station in Dallas, TX. Our club was told to create a
product that could be used in a 3rd world country. We decided to go with alternative
energies to provide electricity. We created a bike generator and demonstrated it by setting
it up to a board of light bulbs and watched them light up. We were invited to go on our
local to show the rest of the city what we had made. We even got the new anchors to get
on it and try it out themselves.
Wind Chimes with Solar Lights (2012)
Our class project was to create wind chimes that would play a predetermined note. We
calculated the exact length each pipe needed to be to play the correct note and cut the
pipes accordingly. Because I wanted to go above-and-beyond on this project, It was my
idea to put a solar powered LED light with battery pack on the top of our manifold so it
would light up at night time automatically.
BEST Robotics-Lead Electrical Engineer (2009-2010)
As a freshman class project we entered a robotics competition called BEST Robotics. It
was a competition in which other teams fought to grab the most items on the playing
field. I was elected as the Lead Electrical Engineer and took on some of the higher level
rolls in the design.
