Summary of Accomplishments

Describe your qualifications for this vacancy by providing a brief description of your accomplishments that demonstrate that you

possess the requirements stated on the job posting. These accomplishments may have occurred in various settings.

I have knowledge of the mail flow system as a mail handler. Mail Handlers and Clerks are craft positions working together to move the mail.

In the NDC, movement of the mail occurs through six sections. My experience has involved three sections which are the priority/mecca

section, the inbound section and the outbound section. The other 3 sections are staffed predominately by clerks. All 6 sections are responsible

for mail flow. All performance standards lead to mail flow. The bottom line is to get the mail out of the building in a timely manner for

national distribution. In the NDC we need improvement in identifying safety and health issues. I will form a health and safety committee

comprised of staff members from each section to advise and input sectional concerns. When the committee has taken inventory of the issues

we will develop an action plan for implementation. Action will take place after this inventory. In the meantime assessments will be ongoing.

All issues and concerns will be a part of the training plan for section leaders, supervisors, and managers. Throughout the NDC I have

witnessed poor attendance, and the use of excessive sick leave. I have seen many physical challenges which slow productivity. I will analyze

and evaluate existing trends and behaviors. I will disaggregate and compile the data to modify accident prevention/plans.The goal is to

reduce sick leave and poor attendance while increasing productivity. A large percentage of postal employees are unaware of policies

mandated by Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). I will develop a system of communication to increase awareness of health

and safety expectations hrough the use of "stand up talks", flyers, brochures, posters and other communication approaches. I will educate

existing staff and management thus increasing compliance to health and safety rules and regulations. There is a lack of regular presentations

on health and safety issues that pertain to our work environment. I will stablish an environmental culture concerning safety and health in the

work place by creating a network with local educational institutions (Higher Ed) and by utilizing public relation departments to present a

forum of existing informaton and materials to staff and managers. Our goal is to increase knowledge of health and safety issues and decrease

incidents and unscheduled absences, and accidents. We are experiencing an inadequate way to follow an integrated approach to

communications. The top down problem of the "the little person" not getting a chance to talk to or with the "big person" within the NDC

does exist. Developing a model where top down coordinated activities can take place throughout the District by convening a group of

stakeholders to work on the model concerning health and safety practices will substantially enhance advance the development of overall

safety and health. Health and safety now becomes a "way of life" in the United States Postal Services (USPS).
