Dear Hiring Manager,
Through my work and education at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, I have acquired the
knowledge, work ethic, and real world experience a mechanical engineer must demonstrate in a
professional career. While attending university, I have been employed in both full and part time
positions at LL Productions and the Town of Plymouth Department of Public Works. Within those
years, I have filled a myriad of roles and have become a trusted, integral member of the company’s
operations. Throughout all of my work experiences, I have demonstrated the ability to be an
excellent communicator, to have the ability to adapt to different situations and roles, to be an
effective team leader, and to be a dependable employee.
As my attached resume indicates, I am in my final semester of obtaining my Bachelor of Science
degree in Mechanical Engineering from the UMass College of Engineering. My ABET accredited
degree covers many of the facets of engineering including design, manufacturing, quality control,
and control system theory. Specifically, my curriculum includes improving performance and
increasing efficiency of mechanical and electrical systems through the use of math and science. I
am very open to utilizing my degree to its fullest extent and continue learning new techniques to
improve job performance.
Within all of my educational and work experiences I have demonstrated the ability to work in an
ethical, independent, efficient, and productive manner.
Sincerely,
Phillip Bird
