WORK EXPERIENCE

General Physician/Hospiten Santo Domingo (Oct/2011 Nov/2012) Santo Domingo. DR

• For 13 months I worked as a general medical physician at Hospiten Santo Domingo, a private international hospital

network providing first class healthcare service. With a 24 hours shift every 4 days, I evaluated inpatients including

children, adults and elderly population doing a medical history and performing a complete physical exam. I worked

with different healthcare specialists, discussing the physiopathology of the diseases and the best treatment for each

case, making every inpatient a new learning opportunity. I had to run lab tests, write on service notes, progress notes

and discharge notes. I made sure the patient was comfortable during their stay, listening to their inquiries and

providing answers to their questions, but most of all, giving support during this difficult time. The reason I left this

position was because I wanted to focus full time on the USMLE preparation.

Medical Doctor/ Promed Dominicana (Mar Oct/2011) Santo Domingo. DR

• Motivated by experiences in the ER during my rotations in the hospitals and wanting to learn more about prehospital

emergency care, I joined Promed Dominicana, a private ambulance company which provides their affiliates medical

service and paramedic assistance in a secure and fast way, with resources and the best professionals in the area. I

had the opportunity to learn and apply basic life support in numerous occasions, as well as advanced cardiac life

support and pediatric life support. Having to manage cases in the scene and/or during a transport, I had to preserve

the life and safety of people in emergency situations exceeding all expectations. I had to provide fast, secure and

reliable medical care in an atmosphere of respect for patients and their families.

Primary Care Physician Assistant / Rural Medicine Service (Nov/2009 – Jan/2010) Boca Canasta, Bani. DR

• For 3 months I worked at a Primary Care Unit Facility that evaluated and treated different population of patients

including children, adults and elderly, based on daily appointments. Utilized creativity to diagnose and treat patients

with potential life threatening conditions, given the lack of resources and imaging systems in this unit. I made

referrals and assisted critically ill or injured patients during their transportation to higher level centers. Also

implemented preventive health protocols to avoid potential complications related to diabetes, hypertension, and

gynecologic cancer. Driven by the overwhelming high prevalence of hypertension in the elderly population observed

during my stay at this rural community, I prepared two talks for the local population addressing the topics of the

importance of diagnosing high blood pressure, as well adherence to treatment. A lot of the residents asked numerous

questions that were answered and further discussed.
