WORK

EXPERIENCE Scientist (Contractor)

Amyris uses its industrial synthetic biology platform to convert plant sugars into a

variety of hydrocarbon molecules like a long-chain hydrocarbon, farnesene (biofuel). I

joined Amyris to understand and improve farnesene transport out of yeast cells during

biofuel production. My goal was to understand the morphological differences between

farnesene producers and non-producer yeast strains, which in turn may have suggested

genetic remedies/modifications for improving biofuel production. I used molecular

biology techniques and live cell imaging to address these issues. Additionally, I was

responsible for strain engineering and rational design for over-production of desirable

microbial metabolites.
