Work Experience
Protection Engineer Intern at BHEL, India
(July 2009-June
2010)
-Testing various overcurrent relays
-Assisting field engineers in setting the relay
-Analyzing circuit schematics to find out appropriate relay settings
and fuse ratings
- Maintaining and updating databases of protection elements in
different sectors of the system
-Setting the time dial settings of time delay elements and the pick-
up currents of instantaneous and short time delay elements
-Setting up distance relays for the protection of transmission lines
-Analyzing different protection schemes on ETAP to check for proper
sequence of operation
-Following up with any 'event' on the grid to conduct fault analysis
and to check for relay/breaker malfunction.

MATLAB/Simulink V7.6
. Programming Languages: C, C++
. Proficient in MS Office Applications
Graduate Projects
Analysis of a DEFIG system on ETAP
. Performed studies for DFIG- Grid Interconnection using ETAP. Tasks
comprised of running power flows, short circuit studies, and
system's protection coordination. Ensured reactive power
compensation met the technical requirements at steady state.
Performed P-Q curve analysis at the point of common coupling with
the grid.
Contingency analysis on Oregon Transmission System (OTS) using Power
world
. Power flow analysis of a 230kV network in the North-West United
States using Power World. Tasks comprised of running power flows
and checking the system for voltage violations for N-0 system
condition and for N-1, N-2 and multiple contingencies. Also
carried out short circuit analysis for the new relief for dynamic
analysis and transient stability of the system.
. Formulated Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) to stabilize the grid and
to stay compliant with NERC TPL criteria.
Distribution Analysis Project
. Conducted load forecasting for the next 20 years based on a 50 year
load database. Computed the reliability indices such as SAIFI, MAIFI,
SAIDI.
. Simulated load balancing, load transfer between sectors and load
relief for future by construction of new substations.
Simulation Environment: Power world
Solar Based Distributed Generation System with Grid Tie Project Proposal
. Constructed a 10KW Solar based distributed generation system
aimed at peak shaving, with scope for expansion upto 30KW with
more panels.
. Tasks involved Circuit design, cost estimation, in-depth analysis
and selection of components to stay compliant with NERC CIP
standards.
Simulation Environment: Power world
