I am writing to apply for the Senior Estimator position as advertised on
the web. I am a professional Quantity Surveyor with a graduate degree in
Building Economics with 15 year's hands on experience, successful in
bidding and estimating large building and civil infrastructure including
renewable energy projects with proven history of successful bidding. I have
strong working knowledge of civil, architectural, structural, mechanical
and electrical discipline and the capability to perform complex estimating
activities .I am a member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors
currently working towards attaining the PQS/ (CEC) designation.
In my previous role as a Construction Estimator with Overseas
Infrastructure Alliance in partnership with IVRCL, I prepared tenders for
various civil Infrastructure/Utility projects as well as managed all
aspects of developing cost estimates and other pre-proposal RFI process for
civil infrastructure projects with an approximate volume of $2-$25 million.
I worked closely with subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders
through the bid process to understand and capture the complete scope of
each trade in the scope summary sheets and the estimates at large.I lead
the submission and won Lindi Urban Water supply & Sanitation Project
(Contract no. 3N105005, value US$ 14.7Million). I was involved in pre-
construction related activities including integration of project activities
to ensure that the project was on schedule, costs were within budget. I
prepared and monitored construction budgets, tracked project expenditure
and prepared forecasts to ensure post-contract cost variances and change
control processes were managed effectively. I reviewed and updated project
schedules, cost forecasts and cash flows on a monthly basis. I planned,
organized and directed all project site activities including procurement,
scheduling, estimating, cost control, construction, and start-
up/commissioning.
In my role as a Project Quantity Surveyor/Lead Estimator with SBI
International Holdings on road rehabilitation projects, I was responsible
for estimating, proposal development, assembling complete bid packages and
proposals through close-out to efficiently, successfully, and profitably
obtain and complete assigned construction projects with an approximate
volume of $2-$25 million. I submitted and won the Rehabilitation of Mau
Summit-Kericho-Kisumu Highway Upgrade (Contract No. RD-0421& RD -0422,
value: US$ 17.29Million) I visited projects to understand site
conditions/restrictions. I prepared bills of quantities by completing full
quantity take-off, obtained bids from vendors and subcontractors,
identified qualified subcontractors and conducted pre-bid negotiations. I
managed the contractual and financial aspects of the successful projects. I
performed measurements, prepared periodic valuations and ensured timely
submissions. I prepared monthly post-contract cost financial reports and
negotiated final accounts. I participated in value engineering, life cycle
costing and led the project stage interfaces. I prepared and monitored
construction budgets while ensuring post-contract cost variances and change
control processes were managed effectively.
In my role as a Senior Estimator with Tusk Constructions Ltd, I was
responsible for preparing documents for bidding, bidding projects,
estimating cost of the bids, and submitting bids.I monitored bid
opportunities (local papers, on the web etc.). I developed estimates
(ranging from $2,000 - $20 million and up) from various types of bid
documents and while taking care of key components such as bonding,
insurance, indemnification and damage clauses. I worked closely with
subcontractors, suppliers, specialty services, and equipment suppliers for
best price quotes and ensured scope of work is complete as needed for the
bid I visited proposed job sites and attended pre-bid meetings.
