Assume responsibility for setting up and passing instruments, holding
retractors, assisting the surgeon, assisting with circulating duties as
necessary, and closing wounds.
Observe and maintain aseptic technique at all times.
Assist in preparing the operating room for procedure, obtaining needed
equipment and supplies.
Maintain working knowledge of assembly and function of surgical
instrumentation and equipment.
Accomplish required scrub following policy/procedure.
Assist with skin preparation and draping of patient.
Complete required sponge, needle and instrument counts following
policy/procedure.
Gown and glove members of the surgical team.
Anticipate the needs of equipment and instruments by the surgeon during an
operation utilizing physician preference cards.
Control the location of contaminated instruments and supplies to prevent
the spread of infection by properly utilizing the case cart system.
Handle and care for surgical specimens according to policy/procedure.
Report pertinent information regarding patient care to relief personnel.
Prepare the operating room for the next procedure by utilizing proper
cleaning techniques and return equipment to designated area.
Research information of surgical procedure as needed.
Take mandatory call as assigned.
Assist in transportation and positioning of patients, using good body
mechanics and proper technique.
Communicate with other departments to obtain items required, (x-ray, SPD,
Pathology, Nursing Units, etc.).
Plan, implement and evaluate personal/professional goals.
Assist with orientation of new personnel, provide in service programs as
directed, and attend continuing education on a regular basis.
Work scheduled hours yet flexible with schedule to meet the needs of the
department.
