Project Work
B.tech project:
Design and Fabrication of low speed Wind Tunnel
After design and calculations for the wind tunnel parts, an airfoil (NACA
63-215) has been selected by plotting the coordinates of the foil.
Materials has been selected and wind tunnel parts has been fabricated.
Wooden ply with mild steel used for the fabrication of wind tunnel.
Assembly of components has been done. The overall length of the tunnel was
10ft. Test section length was 50cm. Settling chamber was 60cm. Contraction
ratio was 4 and honeycomb thickness was 10cm. Exhaust fan used was H.P.
Selected airfoil has been tested in the tunnel with the air as a medium.
Profile view has been done on airfoil to visualize the way air moves around
model with smoke as a medium.
Mini Project:
Fabricate the thrust reversal from scrap:
A dustbin has been used as the engine attached to it was thrust
reversal(made up of cardboard) which was hydraulic operated. The hydraulic
operation was achieved with the help of Medical syringes.
Mini Robotics Projects:
> Fabrication and programming of Line follower robot which follows the
black line. IR Sensor was mounted in the front of the axle to sense
the light.
> Fabrication and programming of Obstacle avoidance and Pid avoidance
robot which was capable of avoiding obstacle in static environment.
Ultrasonic sensor was used to sense the obstacle.
> Fabrication and programming of Biped robot which was capable of
walking and avoiding obstacle.
> Fabrication and programming of Biologically Inspired Hexapod(Six leg
Crawling robot) made up of acrylic sheets.
> Fabrication and programming Robotic arm using acrylic sheets. Robot
was programmed using Arduino microcontroller.
M.tech project:
Kinematic modeling and mathematical analysis of Quad rotor with application
of self-stabilizing and steady hover
Kinematic Modeling of Quadrotor was done with Earth inertial reference
(E-frame) and Body-fixed reference (B-frame). The coordinate system is
aligned such that rotor 1 is pointing in the same direction as the positive
x-axis. The orientation of the quadrotor was described as a parametrization
of the 3 x 3 transformation matrix, transforming vectors from the earth
frame to the body frame. The kinematic modeling was done using Euler Angle
Representation. Mathematical Analysis of Quadrotor was done using
translational and rotational motion of the frames. IMU Sensor was designed
by combination of 2-axis gyroscope and 3-axis accelerometer on a bread
board. IMU sensor was tuned manually. PID cntroller was tuned to the
desired settling and overshoot value and implemented on the board. 3-D
model was fabricated using Autocad 2011. The quadrotor was in a square
shape with length of each side is 0.6 meters. The model was tested on
testbench for PID tuning. The tehered testing of the model was done. The
quadrotor had gain the stability and the oscillations had been reduced to a
large extent.
Projects Undertaken
Design and Analysis of a Multi-Section Variable Camber Wing
The aerodynamic characteristics of a multi-section, variable camber
wing was investigated. Airfoil selected for baseline (symmetrical) rigid
configuration is NACA 0015 with chord length 19.5 cm and span 20 cm and the
results were plotted. Airfoil selected for cambered rigid configuration is
NACA 6615 with chord length 19.7cm and span 20 cm. The model was designed
in CATIA. Lift and drag force was calculated using ANSYS. The fabricated
model was having a 19.7cm chord and a 20cm wingspan, with the ribs divided
into 3 sections such that section will be made to rotate approximately 1
degree without causing significant discontinuity on the wing surface
manually. The model has been tested in subsonic wind tunnel. The analytical
values and the experimental values has been compared. The multi-section
variable camber wing model was providing up to 10 per cent change in camber
from the baseline configuration.
Design and stability analysis of Micro-air-vehicle (MAV)
Model developed was of very small area having wing span 500 mm having
attachable module structure. Preliminary design process and complete
analysis over a designed model by using design software ansys along with
analytical calculation has been done. The objective for designing such MAV
is to fulfill the basic requirements for MAV for military missions relate
to surveillance operations due to their small size and video transmission
capabilities. The motto will be accomplished(under process) by
incorporating autopilot system in designed model. After completion of the
research work this MAV can be carry anywhere with easy handling and can be
assembled and disassembled within 30 sec. The cruise speed and endurance of
the model will be 17 m/s and about 30 min respectively.
