(C3ISR) systems and products, avionics, ocean products, training devices
and services, instrumentation, space, and navigation products.
Contract Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programmer
> Placed on special Tiger Team to decrease scrap and increase throughput.
Results eliminated shop floor weekend overtime.
> Reduced manual machining operations on Oil Seals and Single Tower Engine
Housing by introducing current up-to-date tooling.
> Combined features in current programs to reduce tooling in magazine and
increase quality.
> Reduced cycle time in CNC programs by reducing cutting stokes and other
wasted "air" time.
TRW AUTOMOTIVE, Lafayette, IN October 2012 to March 2013
TRW Automotive is among the world's largest automotive suppliers and is one
of the top financial performers in the industry, with 2012 sales of $16.4
billion.
Contract Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programmer
> Decreased machine downtime and reduced cycle time on Ford Green Rack
Piston for steering system on Mori Seiki SH403 Machining Center. Through
the creation of a geometry offset check program, downtime was reduced
from 25% to 7%. After review of tooling manufacturer's recommended
machining parameters, reduced cycle time by 33%.
> Reduced cycle time in Green Sector area by 5% by economizing on tool
paths
> Provided oral as well as written process instruction.
> Performed gage R&R's to investigate quality issues on parts.
MAGNA POWERTRAIN, Muncie, IN September 2011 to October 2012
Premier Supplier for the global automotive industry with full capabilities
in powertrain design, development, testing, and manufacturing.
Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programmer
> Provided tooling and programming for machining of Chrysler 45 RFE main
shaft on Okuma LU-25 4-axis lathe. Used full capability of machine to
eventually reduce machine cycle time from just under 3 min. to 1:15 min.
> Reduced setup scrap on a gear pointing operation on range sleeves and
input gears by providing the operator with a single point machining
option in program.
> Reduced cycle time on Monarch Machine Center by utilizing through spindle
coolant as well as removing unnecessary tooling. Cycle time savings: 37
min. to 14 min. Also, reduced cycle time on steel carrier half by
combining tooling from a drill and end mill to a step drill. 30 second
cycle time savings removed the machine as a constraint in the cell.
> Instrumental in providing state-of-the-art tooling for Hard Turn Shaft
Cell
ALLISON TRANSMISSION, INC., Indianapolis, IN 1982 to 2011
American Manufacturer of commercial duty automatic transmissions and hybrid
propulsion systems.
Senior Manufacturing Engineer - CNC Programmer 1996-2011
> Identified critical variable, programmed an innovative probe, and
utilizing data created a trigonometric algorithm to correctly align
critical features eliminating waste and increasing first time quality.
> Revived an underutilized Mori Seiki DL20 bar machine transitioning a two-
step 10 minute machining process to a one-step 2 minute process and
reducing scrap by 14%. Process used mill-turn features.
> Reduced cycle time by almost 50% (33 minutes to 17 minutes) by utilizing
higher feeds and speeds, eliminating unnecessary steps, and improving
tools to meet higher speed requirements.
> Adapted KTIP carbide self-centering tool to aluminum tight-tolerance part
significantly reducing scrap, improving quality, and reducing cycle time
by 42 minutes.
> Selected to partner with Unigraphics on new product beta testing.
> Utilized all features of Hitachi Seiki 5-axis machine to merge several
existing operations into one operation. Results improved product
throughput as well as quality.
CNC Programmer 1982-1996
> Introduced Okuma simultaneous 4-axis lathe operation with new ceramic
inserts; programming, tooling, setting up, evaluating, and demonstrating
the machine to senior managers in a 5 day period.
> Converted existing plant to cell manufacturing implementing mechanized
CNC process in place of manual processes resulting in increased
efficiency and quality.
> Programmed 30 CNC machines manually to meet challenging deadline and
avoid production interruption.
> Worked closely with Procurement and other Plant disciplines to streamline
the purchasing process eliminating redundancies and saving significant
time and money.
ROLLS-ROYCE., Indianapolis, IN 1972 to 1982
