Personal Statement

Worked in the Plumbing & Heating Industry for over 25yrs, I have a varied

work history which has offered me many opportunities in this industry,

having dealt with quite diverse situations.

From starting as a Plumbing & Heating Engineer and progressed onto becoming

a Qualified Assessor/Trainer, as well as Centre Manager with my current

company and Head of Plumbing Department at Northumberland College.

Having gained Assessor and lead Internal Verifier status this has enhanced

my portfolio of skills and ability level within this particular field.

I have excellent communication skills and a good ability to listen, my

customer approach is excellent.

With this knowledge and ability I feel given the opportunity I could become

Apprentice Plumbing & Heating Engineer, Rowells 1924 ltd, Newcastle upon

Tyne.(Aug 1983 to Sept 1985) Working along side plumbing and heating

engineers in the installation of heating systems in the north east region.

Plumbing & Heating Engineer, North Tyneside Council (Oct 1985 to 1986) I

ended my apprenticeship with this local authority because of the

liquidation of Rowells. Main Duties- Planned Maintenance in council

properties.

Heating Engineer, TE. Burrows ltd Newcastle upon Tyne (June 1986 to 1988)

Main Duties- Installation of heating systems in the private sector.

Advanced Plumbing & Heating Engineer, PJ Burridge Ltd Benton ind Estate

Newcastle Upon Tyne. (Oct 1988 to Dec 1991)

Main Duties- Installation of heating systems contractor to Barratt.

to Oct 1995.

1996) On applying for the position of service engineer with Newcastle City

Council, within 2 months I was made up to chargehand.

MainDuties- To Maintain appliances within the council stock, I also looked

1998) Due to cut backs in funding I left Newcastle City Council and worked

again as a service engineer for this local heating company.

Main Duties- Planned Maintenance for various Housing Associations and

Main Duties- Working for Vaillant I dealt with all vaillant products, I

dealt with many installers and associations associated with our products on

a daily basis, from breakdown to advice on installation requirements on any

Warranty calls and joint visits with installers if and when required

problem solving or advice on installation requirements of our products .

Moved into the training sector following on from my time at Vaillant,over

the coming months working for Northumberland College I was then moved up to

Head of Department this involved the running of level 2-3 plumbing and also

the management of there ACS Assessment Centre Fullcost Customers . I was

also involved in the development of new courses associated with the

department, I managed 12 staff and over 180 students in my time there.

Due to funding, the position at Northumberland College became unmanageable,

from there I was asked to set up a private training centre in North

Shields, over the coming months I established the centre as a well managed

training facility being part of a National network of centres, we focused

on adult learners who required re-training in Plumbing and Heating also ASC

gas provision, due to the economic climate, the number of candidates

diminished this being the case, I decided to become self -employed for a

short period again this became difficult in current climate and joined

Trade Training Associates as Lead Internal Verifier.

After working for OLCI, for a brief time I was unemployed due to

circumstances, I then started for the above company managing the provision

for apprentices for all level 2-3 qualifications and the Management of

there ACS Assessment Centre. My role here is one of middle management I

control all qualifications and monitor all staff involved in the running of

same, we develop and implement changes to courses if and when required and

oversee all documentation to completion of qualifications, also manage and

run a installation team who we use in-house for work based training with

apprentices, this mainly consists of combi bolier installations in Domestic

properties, I survey, plan and estimate to a strong customer base,

securing work and completion of same to industry standard.
