Career History
General Electric / PrimeStar Solar, 2010 - 2013
General Electric, 2012 - 2013.
Operations Manager
Managed Engineers and Technicians across most aspects of Factory
operations, including production, quality, advanced development, product
reliability and product life testing.
. Established 5-S program and Safety Committee at Solar start-up where
none had existed before. 5-S program improved on its scoring system
from 76 % to 98 % rapidly and maintained. Safety Committee improved
employee involvement to exceed the parent company standard and monthly
walk-though scores averaged 95 % compliance.
. Integrated multiple departments under one Manager, improving
operations and reducing costs. Reduced costs through cross-training
rather than back-filling positions and relying on overtime. Improved
operational efficiencies through better inter-departmental
communication and integrated direction.
PrimeStar Solar / GE, 2010 - 2012.
Production Manager
Managed Technicians, Supervisors and Engineering Specialists in many
aspects of Plant Operations in a high-end Technology start up. Staff of 31
across 2 primary production shifts and four 24/7 preliminary supply shifts.
. Successfully managed consistent change in a dynamic manufacturing
environment. Due to the need for continuous technology improvements
regarding Solar modules, consistently integrated new tools, processes
and work flows smoothly into existing 25 MW factory.
. Launched world class Solar TCO production line. Launched a successful
24/7 production line using breakthrough technology for in-house
application of base TCO films on glass for Solar module production.
Research Electro-Optics, 2008 - 2010.
Production Supervisor
Managed primary production coating lab for world class Optics manufacturer.
17 staff and 12 coating platforms.
. Standardized and streamlined Coating lab operations. Reduced
preventative maintenance chamber down time by half. Thin Film
Engineering staff reduced from six to two as a result of shift from
Engineering based manufacturing model to a production based model.
Applied Films / Optera Inc., 1990 - 2008
Optera - OTX/TPK, 2007-2008.
Consultant
Manufacturing and Process Engineering consultant for Optera's touch screen
applications start-up in Xiamen, China.
. Significant Contributor to Chinese joint venture production for #1
most anticipated consumer electronic product of 2007. Started up and
qualified joint venture operations with Chinese manufacturer to
produce touch screen interface for ground-breaking communications
device. Streamlined problematic multi-step process resulting full
acceptance of recommended improvements by Chinese employees. Gained
instant credibility with our partner and customer.
Optera Colorado, 2002 - 2007.
Production Manager
Division of $25B parent company MagnaDonnelly. Managed production for
Colorado location of world's leading manufacturer of thin film touch
coatings including staffing, budgets, capital projects, output and quality.
Managed 35 staff.
. Increased production and significantly reduced downtime through
schedule reorganization. As business began growing following
substantial downturn, production shift structure became insufficient.
Restructured schedule resulting in four 10-hour shifts and elimination
of supervisor. New plan increased start-ups, reduced downtime and
opened up Fridays for R&D and overtime when necessary.
. Reduced new product launch timelines by 8-12 weeks and recouped $50K
of annual costs. Outsourced tooling program became bogged down by
shift in business focus. Brought tool design and fabrication in house,
established welding training program and initiated procedures and
design reviews. Reduced lead times for qualifications significantly.
Applied Films Corp, 1990 - 2002.
Production Manager
Managed day-to-day production of three shift operation for $100M company
and leading supplier of thin film coated glass and physical vapor
deposition equipment. Managed 45 staff.
. Saved over $1M in material costs by improving yields an additional
10%. A fire at a competitor's facility caused a sudden and massive
demand in orders for LCD flat-panel displays. Due to high cost of
materials, optimization of yields was crucial. Led team that improved
yields from 85% to 95% and significantly reduced response time to
problems, allowing company to enter previously untapped flat-panel
display market.
. Streamlined multi-pass process resulting in uptime improvement of more
than 100% and 20 % gain in yields virtually eliminating waste on high
cost materials. Identified that additional efficiency and yield
improvements were possible on high margin products if transfer to new
line could be made. Streamlined difficult multi-pass process into much
simpler single-pass process.
