Installation of the first Nighthawk SP/2 High Node for Livermore. Worked
with IBM hardware CE to accept delivery of the servers and add additional
corrective hardware to systems. Installed the AIX operating system on IBM
SP/2 high node state-of-the-art technology beta test system, the pre-GA,
Nighthawk I SP2 Class Server, one of the first SP/2 high-node installations
in U.S, for the ASCI White Project at Lawrence Livermore. There were four
SP2 node frames consisting of 16 high nodes installed using AIX NIM, in
addition to software required by the developers, including beta PSSP
Troutbeck code (PSSP 3.1.1), AIX 4.3.3, beta Loadleveler, VSD and GPFS,
FORTRAN, xlC, and KAI C++ . Configured and implemented the build of the
GPFS SSA raid for one teraflop (90 pdisks). Developed documentation for the
GPFS installation, de-installation and rebuild as requested by the
Livermore. Integrated corrective code drops, new packages and provided
sanity checks. Participated in discussions concerning the future build-up
and stabilization of the Nighthawk II Colony switch adapter for the A, B, C
and D complexes. At the six month point, the systems were rebuilt by the
IBM Hardware CE to the GA hardware. I worked again with the CE to
physically migrate NIO boards, CPU cards, memory books and Colony Switch to
the new frames. Installed the migrated software code of the control
workstation and node software levels via NFS distribution of AIX 4.3.3 and
PSSP code to beta Mohonk (PSSP 3.2) pre-released to the government.
Upgraded and managed an additional SP/2 test matrix comprised of 48 CEC
thin nodes and 30 CEC wide nodes.
