Work Experience
In September 2012 I attended work experience at St John Vianney RC Primary School during a 5 day period; I
helped out in various classrooms and worked with children who have learning difficulties. This helped me to
develop different communication skills and learn some simple sign language. Whilst being at the school I was able
to communicate confidently with members of staff and the children, this gave me the chance to ask appropriate
questions. During one of the days I was able to develop my I.C.T skills by helping a class of year 2 produce a
name plate on word and adding a border to it, I was able to help out and support the children if they were
struggling. Throughout the week the children seemed as if they felt comfortable being around me and being able to
share experiences and talk to me confidently.
Other Experience
In May 2013 I was able to work on a stall at Tynemouth market where I was able to develop communication skills
with customers.
In June 2013 I took part in working in St Oswald’s Hospice as a volunteer, I was able to communicate with the
customers who came into the shop effectively and make them feel comfortable when using the till and answering
questions.
In July 2013 I was able to take part in the NCS volunteer programme which included going on two residential trips
throughout 2 weeks and taking part in a variety of activities. During the 2 week programme I was able to
communicate with others, make new friend and openly give my opinion during discussions with a group. After the
two week residential weeks I was given the opportunity to help out at Rupert’s Wood to make it more accessible to
children or adults with disabilities, this helped me to develop more communication skills with new people and
build teamwork skills. I was also able to take part in a charity table top sale for St Oswald’s Hospice where I was
able to use my communication skills to talk to customers and sell products effectively.
Personal statement
I am a very enthusiastic person when it comes to work, I am able to interact with new people easily and work
confidently in group tasks. As an individual I am quite bubbly and able to listen to instructions that I am given. I
am very determined, able to work independently and give my opinion in different situations. I enjoy socializing
with friends and like listening to a different variety of music. I am also reliable, hardworking and I have a passion
for helping people.
