Please accept the attached résumé for the position of senior project manager. I believe that my
knowledge of both commercial and residential building construction combined with my
education and experience would serve your organization well.
My wife has accepted a position in the Greater Austin area, and I would like to obtain a fulltime
position as well. I left Texas a little over 25 years ago and am excited to finally be returning.
I have been around construction all of my life and have been working in the industry for over 26
years. The first 10 years were spent in the trenches as a carpenter/foreman learning the nuts
and bolts of the business. The next 5 years were spent on the job as a project superintendent,
and the last twelve years have been spent in management as a project manager and an
operations manager for a midsized commercial builder. I have really enjoyed the design build
process. I feel it is one of the best ways to approach a project as it allows for the owner and
contractor to work together to develop a project that will fit their needs as well as their budget
and is much quicker than the traditional design, bid, build method. One task I really enjoy is
putting together conceptual estimates for projects. I feel that it is much more efficient to price as
you go in lieu of value engineering after the fact.
As a project manager I have learned to treat the client fairly and try to develop a relationship
that will foster a partnership rather than an adversarial relationship. I am very comfortable in
dealing with clients, architects, and other design consultants from conception to completion. I
am very adept at computerized construction and am comfortable using several different forms of
software for project scheduling, accounting, and estimating.
As the Operations Manager for my current employer, I focused on the overall operations of the
business as well as managing several project managers in a project director capacity. In this
capacity I negotiate projects with the clients and then assign a project manager to assist me in
developing the project.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to review my credentials and experience. I hope that
you'll find my experience, interests, and character intriguing enough to warrant a face-to-face
meeting, as I am confident that I could provide value to you and your customers as a member of
your team.
Sincerely,
Travis Knoll
