gone bankrupt. These stores had existed in southern Florida,
Mississippi and Birmingham. My SDLC responsibility was to
determine what programs that had to be rewritten and new VSAM
files to be developed. Since Jitney Jungle was so small they
had no need in the past for a paging capability in their CICS

updating the new EAMS by all the BOC.
10/77 - 08/80 JIM WALTER RESCOURCES
Programmer/Analyst
Jim Walter Resources, a coal mine and coke plant company, had
recently been created from U.S. Pipe. All of the programs were
duplicated and were distinguished from the U.S. Pipe programs by
adding an "R" in front of the
program and file names because they were using the same
computer. The Account Receivables was a batch system that was
in shambles and was out of balance because they were using
Control Clerks and Keypunch Operators running the system. I was
hired to do the SDCL along with a Credit Manager, the main user.
It took a few weeks to do the basic analysis and begin the
output design, determining what data was available, what data
was to be created, what reports were needed, etc. I designed
and developed a DL/1 database, which I had to convert to IMS
when JWR converted to MVS while I was developing the new A/R
system. I designed and created a VSAM transaction file with bi-
directional activity between the database and the VSAM file. I
designed and created three on-line CICS screens that included a
customer screen, invoice payment screen with the capability to
post to the General Ledger and a customer transaction screen. I
designed and created 25 supporting batch programs including
customer billing statements, daily, weekly, monthly YTD and year-
end reports. I developed a User manual and trained the user and
an operator's manual. The system was thoroughly tested by me
and the Systems Programming before putting it into production.
This A/R balanced to the penny every month and immediately
dropped the outstanding receivables from $29 million to $20
million. I understand that this A/R system that I designed and
created from scratch was used from 1979 when I had it fully in
production until 1998 when they acquired a new software and
hardware system for Y2K.
