Comparison between Munich and Gammachirp Models in Audio Compression
Project Description:
The majority of MPEG1 coders apply a psycho-acoustic model for coding applications
using filter bank to approximate the frequency selectivity of the human auditory system. Most
MP3 coders use the Fourier transform whose fundamental roles are limited only to the
spectral properties of the signal. In this paper, a new design for modeling auditory masking is
based on wavelet packet decomposition. Wavelet unlike FFT, A new architecture of a psycho-
acoustic model based on wavelets decomposition can be applied to the audio coders in sub-
bands approximating the critical bands. Our study is made up of four parts. The first part will
focus on the proposed psychoacoustic model. The second part aims at presenting the two
models (Munich and Gammachirp). The third part deals with a comparison between the
compressions ratios of the proposed coders (Munich and Gammachirp). Finally, a sound
quality evaluation will be carried out to conclude this work.

Project Description:
DTMF is a latest version of remote system. DTMF is generally used in telephone
exchanges for the purpose of caller identification. This DTMF system consists of two IC’s. One
is tone dialer and other is receiver. By using this tone dialer IC for tone generation and this
tone is converted into FM waves and it is sent to the receiver.
