Mini Project Details

Effect of Compression-Ratio on performance of 4-stroke petrol engine: The

performance of petrol engine is assessed by varying its compression ratio

from 2 to 8.2. We found that if compression ratio is low, there would not

be firing and on other hand if it is high, combustion would be erratic. At

intermittent values, combustion is normal and engine performance parameters

like volumetric efficiency and brake power are found.

EMISSION AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF A 4-STROKE- SINGLE-CYLINDER PETROL

ENGINE

Two Stroke Petrol Engine are widely used in low and medium capacity

applications. However many of these engines will have FCR. In the present

work a small capacity of air cooled engine of VCR is considered of the

purpose of experimentation. A Compression ratio has been varied from 4.4 to

7.4. The Engine has been operated at constant speed under variable load

conditions. The Engine has been tested both for its Performance and

Emission characteristics.

The optimum CR at low loads is found to be 7.4 with regard to the

performance 5.6 with the regard of emissions. However at high loads the

corresponding values have to be found to be 5.6. The results are presented

in the form of tables and graphs.

The minimum Brake thermal efficiency is 4.8% and at loads 500 and at

compression ratio is 4.4.The minimum Efficiency is found to be 28 at 500

and at 6.8 compression ratio. Finally Emissions are minimum at 1500 load

and at 6.2 compression ratio.
