early flat file systems to current relational and object oriented

Health Care Recoveries
. Project to determine degree of automating manual review of insurance
records for subrogation
. Extract statistical sample from millions of records and imported test
sample into MS SQL Server
. Scrubbed data to remove aberrant and out of scope records
. Created indices to speed the process of data analysis
. Created with Dr. Donna Ingram (statistician/mathematician) a formula to
run against a blind year's data set to determine accuracy of the results
. Conservatively estimated a cost savings of 30% of existing manual labor
using the resulting process
Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board
. Approximately two year engagement to initially determine a new
infrastructure for this $25 million per year organization representing
the Wisconsin dairy industry
. Worked as project manager and analyst to provide the infrastructure plan
and guide it's implementation
. Worked with selected employee/management groups to extract information to
determine additional information technology needs of the organization
. Assisted in selection of new accounting software to replace the non-Year
2000 software then in place
Manning & Napier
. Engaged by Stephen E. Arnold to develop a new database and front end
interface for data extracted from scanned government and military
documents for Manning & Napier
. Data was initially stored in an Access database after being normalized,
then converted to SGML format to be uploaded to SPARC Unix computers for
use in a natural language search engine, DRLink
. Data consisted of tif images of the actual records along with related
text data extracted from the documents prior to upload
. Mr. Arnold referred to the resulting database and program interface as a
"world class computer system"
MultiPackaging Systems
. Charged with developing a reporting system for this large printing firm
to report on a variety of business operations with an emphasis on
productivity and sales
. Used Crystal Reports to extract the relevant data from a large Progress
SQL database
. Created a front end for the reporting system using MS Visual Basic
. One line supervisor commented that the reports "finally give me the
information I need to judge the productivity of my department and are
even better than the reports I received at a former company from an
Oracle database"
. Also exported data from the client's database to provide a critical
report to their bank in an older data format
Apple One
. Engaged along with Stephen Arnold to conduct a large data mart study for
Apple One, a Los Angeles based employment agency with over 367 locations
across the United States and the major provider of temporaries for Walt
Disney Productions
. Served as project manager and analyst on the project
. Apple One was in the process of migrating their data from Microsoft
Access to MS SQL Server
. Provided several alternative pathways in a 109 page report entitled
"Apple One: Data Mart Study"
. One recommendation involved establishing several central MS SQL Server
data warehouses or repositories to provide national and regional access
to critical data
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kentuckiana
. Developed a program to manage the "Bowling for Kids Sake" program which
brings in around $500,000 per year to this non-profit organization
. Created both screen and print reports to track the progress of the
program and its participants
. Created routines to export critical data to Excel and HTML to provide the
necessary information to the organizations billing agency
. Program was written in Visual Basic 6 with reports in Crystal Reports 8
Peabody Painting and Waterproofing
. Developed a program using Visual Basic.NET 2003 to manage jobs, crew
assignments, hotel reservations and vehicles for the company operating in
40 states
. Used Infragistics tools to provide more detailed reporting screens as
well as Crystal Reports 11 to provide the printed reports
. Linked to the company's Quickbooks database to import data on purchase
orders
Smart Business Network
. Managed and implemented a system for a large business magazine publish
operating in 19 city markets to create a mashup of information both from
a traditional MySQL database as well as from RSS feeds in an online
application
