Dear Recruiter:
Ref. “Research Chemist” position reposted on 12/09/2013
In response to the above job opening, please find attached my professional resume for your review. I have more than 10
years of solid R&D experience and over 5 years of successful corporate experience, conducting exploratory and applied
research, and participating in the production and commercialization of new products.
I am an expert in organic synthesis and polymer chemistry to develop new chemical compositions and/or improve
existing ones. Also I am an expert in metal nanotechnology (magnetic, gold and silver nanoparticles) to control their
own unique properties to improve product performance for a wide range of applications throughout many industries.
I have proven formulating and process knowledge, having 6 corresponding international patents issued in 2012 and
2013.
I have ample experience in polymer chemistry, especially alkyds and acrylics, for coatings, as well as waterborne
and solvent borne thickeners, having designed and synthesized polymer based additives as well as UV initiators to
improve final product performance.
I have mass commercialization experience, having developed and designed a photoinduced curing system for
radical polymerization, and coordinated with production to achieve a marketable, cost effective, profitable and
sustainable polymer production process.
I have direct volume scale-up experience, having industrialized a stable and sustainable polymer product for the
multinational company LG Chem manufacturing over 70,000 ton/year.
I am a specialist in nano-scale synthesis, having developed a new method to control the size and shape of metal
nanoparticles to be able to change and improve their properties, especially through organic surfactant systems, as
can be demonstrated by my many publications, which have received over 130 citations in the last year.
I am very familiar with problem solving techniques and methods, testing parameters, processes and procedures, as well as
data collection, analysis and reporting. Likewise, through the many Universities I have worked with, I have acquired in-
depth, technical knowledge about raw materials from suppliers such as BASF, Evonik, Nippon Shokubai, Bayer, Dow,
Dupont, and Thor.
Similarly, I have trained, hands on skills evaluating products using lab instruments and testing equipment, such as NMR,
GC, GPC, ATR-FTIR, TEM, SEM, SQUID, XPS, XRD, DLS, UV-vis, EDX, and AFM. Also, I am very knowledeable about
safety standards and EPA, FDA, and CA regulations, especially regarding hazardous wastes, currently having these
responsibilities as a laboratory manager at the University of Florida.
Additionally, I have good interpersonal and communication skills, having learned from lots of people with different cultures
and languages, as well as levels and walks of life. I am fluent in three languages: English, Korean and Italian.
In conclusion, I am confident that I am more than capable of developing in R&D additives for industrial coatings, paints and
varnishes, water based and solvent based as well as wetting and/or dispersing agents, defoamers, rh eological agents and
preservatives.
Lastly, I have already been granted a work permit and can legally work and reside anywhere in the US.
Please do not hesistate to contact me to discuss my qualifications and fit for this job or another in the future tha t may also
align with my career or personal objectives.
Sincerely,
Gyu Leem, Ph.D.
