Laboratory Assistant
Working in the plant pathology department in BioSafety Level 2 on tomato
and pepper plants.
Accomplish the control of spreading of Xanthomonas species infecting tomato
and pepper plants.
Xanthomonas species were performed on amylolytic, pectolytic and carbon
source utilization.
Working in the greenhouse to take care of the tomato and pepper plants and
then perform inoculation of the Xanthomonas species onto the plants.
Gram staining, Gram positive and Gram negative.
Following GMP and SOPs.
Involved in the SOD (sudden oak death) project working with phytophthora
ramorum.
Isolate Xanthomonas species from pepper and tomato leaves and then perform
purifications of Xanthomonas so that we could store them at -80 C.
Responsible for the preparation of media such as nutrient agar, nutrient
with 1% starch, sucrose peptone agar, and sucrose peptone agar with copper
sulfate, Tween medium, yeast dextrose calcium carbonate, and nutrient
broth.
CVIP (Cryogenics Vessels Instrumentation & Piping) - Emmaus, PA (2010-
2011)
Inventory Specialist
Retrieving special ordered parts when the welders request for the projects.
Maintained adequate supplies in the stock room for the welders as well as
ordering special parts and driving fork lifts.
Managed the shipping and receiving department in the company.
Assembled the parts for the welders to weld on the cryogenic vessels.
Entering raw data into the excel program to keep track of the ordered
parts.
Silliker Laboratory - Allentown, PA (2006- 2010)
Microbiology Technician
Screen for presence of E. coli in different food products for the safety of
the consumers.
Test cell cultures to identify the presence of harmful bacteria from food
products.
Perform dilution series for the trace of toxin levels if the harmful
bacteria are existence.
Read plates and tubes, as required, to determine the number of organisms in
the sample. Record findings on worksheet for verification.
Write identification onto plates so that client and sample number can be
tracked.
Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis
process being performed. Pour the agar into plates or tubes to begin the
growth process.
Prepare sample for analysis by recording, weighing, and blending.
Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified amount of
time and temperature.
Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required.
Sterilize materials needed for analysis. Autoclave plates before
discarding.
Perform food testing, pH and other analysis tests on sample when requested
by the client.
Ensure that media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Wilkes University August 2003 to May 2006
Performed molecular cloning techniques such as DNA purification and PCR.
Measured the respiration, lipid composition, and thermal properties of
Arabidopsis mutants.
Studied the lipid analysis of red and white oak acorn shells.
Determined parent-offspring distances in oak forests by DNA
fingerprinting.
