EXPERIENCE:
12/2010 to Present Sr. PCB Designer
Commscope
Forest,VA
I am currently contracted as a Sr. PCB Designer at Andrew Corporation, a
division of Commscope, in Forest Virginia, through Belcan Staffing and
have been working here since December, 2010.
My projects have consisted of a 22 layer 4u WiFi backplane (6-10G), a 24
layer 2u WiFi backplane, a quad xcvr board, Optical xcvr, test fixtures
to support complete system and documentation using DX Designer and PADS.
Most designs consisted of high pin count FPGA's, BGA's, POE, mixed
variants of discrete components and several voltage supplies in range
from .9V to 55V .I can provide current engineering and management
references upon request.
10/2005 to 7/2010 Sr. PCB Designer
Thales Communications Inc.
Clarksburg, MD.
I was a Senior PCB Designer using Mentor Graphics PADS, Expedition, Dx
Designer and Orcad software at Thales. In addition to design duties I was
the first tier library checker. Design files and support documents were
maintained and released via Sharepoint and PLM (Windchill). My
accomplishments ranged from successful release of several production hand
held and mobile, high frequency, encrypted communications devices. I also
designed several test and debug fixtures which supported test and
production.. Most of the products dictated very dense and higher layer
count PCB design. Usage of .5mm devices and 0402 passives are common
practice as well as blind and buried via stack-up construction. Other
duties included the design of Flexible circuits and interconnects. I am
familiar with IPC 2220 series standards and others that affect the
design, fabrication and manufacturing of PCB's.
6/03 to 10/05 Sr. PCB Designer Level 3
M/A-COM SIGINT (TYCO)
Hunt Valley, MD.
I was a Sr. PCB Designer, Level 3, at M/A-COM. My duties included
supporting the Engineering department with PCB designs and ORCAD
schematic creation, Library creation, management and maintenance. I was
the leader of three PCB Designers. I also performed electromechanical
design and drafting. PADS Layout 2005 was the PCB Software platform in
use. M/A-COM SIGINT specializes in design and manufacture of high
frequency and high performance microwave tuners, receivers and recorders
used at air, land and sea defense installations.
Because of the closure of Seneca Networks (telecom start-up) and the down
turn in the telecom industry I spent 6/02 to 6/03 contracting through
local temporary technical agencies at Young Design, Yafo Networks, and
Fibertek and even provided PADS PCB instruction at M/A-COM SIGINT before
being employed there full time.
3/01 to 4/02 Seneca Networks, Rockville, MD
As a Senior PCB Designer, I worked on 2-20 layer 2.5G high-speed printed
circuit board designs containing PCI busses, Ethernet signals, controlled
impedance and matched length differential pairs for OADM's, TDM Fabrics,
Clock Modules, Line Cards, Transponders and other disciplines for the
DWDM arena of telecommunications products.
1/91 to 3/01: EIT, Sterling, Virginia. I was a Senior Printed Circuit
Board Designer, IPC Certified. My responsibilities included designing
PCB's of various types which included multilayer double-sided placement,
High Speed, Audio, RF, Power Supplies, Analog and Digital using PADS
PowerPCB. I was responsible for obtaining quotes from vendors for
fabrication, determining maximum board fabrication yield and assembly
efficiency. I generated Panelization, Fabrication and Assembly drawings
using ACAD. Using PADS Logic or ORCAD, I would perform schematic
modifications such as adding or replacing parts and re-laying out signals
and busses. I critiqued customer supplied PCB efforts for DFM to improve
fabrication and manufacturing throughput, if to be manufactured at EIT's
facility. Because of my experience in mechanical drafting and design I
was often called to design and draft sheet metal/machine Detail,
Modification and Assembly drawings using ACAD.
8/89 to 11/91: Senior PCB Designer/Manager for Rogers, Miriam and
Roberts, Inc., Fairfax, VA.
11/84 to 8/89: Pulsecom, Herndon, VA. Senior PCB Designer-Drafter Group
Leader
8/83 to 10/84: Naval Research Laboratory, ESD Division, Washington, D.C.
PCB Designer/Engineering Technician (GS-11)(SC).
5/80 to 8/83: Defense Systems Incorporated, McLean, VA. PCB
Designer/Drafter. (SC)
In 1976 I was trained as a draftsman through a summer job with Defense
Communications Agency, Reston, VA. That position led me to full time
employment at Geological Survey, Office of Research and Design, where I
furthered my on the job education-training and completed math and data
processing classes at Northern Virginia Community college.
