RELEVANT EXPERIENCE HIGHLIGHTS
. Disaster Recovery: I have held multiple corporate positions that were
focused on overall IT management and disaster recovery:
o My passion for DR started following the 9-11 disaster where I was
Manager of MIS for ON2 Technologies and began to focus on developing,
testing and validating DR methodologies as working solution.
o Following my tenure with ON2, I went onto SunGard, where I joined as a
Data Comm. Engineer II, within 3 years I was promoted to Manager of
the Wintel and HP/UX department. I had 26 direct reports, and only
dealt with SunGard's Focus 50 accounts. Since I was managing the
overall DR process, recovering Fortune 500 and High Availability
clients with a 100% success rate I was awarded employee of the year in
2007. During my time at SunGard I played a key role in recovering
many different companies; some had it down to a science and others
were works in progress. This is where I started to write business
impact analyses (BIAs) as well as recovery procedures and tested well
over 1,000 DR and business continuity plans for the organization's
clients. Additionally, my job at SunGard focused on helping companies
recover systems following multiple disasters such as September 11, the
blackout of 2003 and various Hurricanes such as Katrina.
o At Sharp, I was brought in to identify, design and implement a DR
facility 50-60 miles from their current location in Mahwah, NJ; a co-
located IBM facility in Piscataway, NJ. I worked with applications
teams to come up with a tiered process for core applications to
determine RPO and RTO times (e.g., tier-1 applications had a RPO of 5
minutes and an RTO of 8 hours). RPO was based on EMC's DMX (SRDF/A)
to Piscataway NJ over a 10GB pipe. I architected solutions for all
Tier 1 applications that would be needed in a disaster and designed
Visio Templates to share with leadership so they could see how
recovery would occur. We tested four times a year and never had a
failure or missed SLA. Sharp used the following storage solutions
which were all replicated to the DR facility daily -- EMC's DMX
(SRDF/A), Celera, Centerra, IBM XIV and a VTL running Tivoli for
backups.
o As part of my role at C&S (in addition to improving overall
infrastructure management), I was responsible for improving business
continuity and disaster recovery plans. This process included
conducting business impact analyses, identifying critical business
processes and functional testing of Tier 1 applications deemed
necessary in case of a disaster. During Hurricane Irene, plans were
executed with a 100% success rate at IBM BCRS in Sterling Forest, NY.
o Most recently, I have consulting with organizations such as ETS,
AIG/Chartis, Siemens, McGraw Hill and Grifols specializing in the DR
and BCP planning. In my role as a Senior Architect I designed new
backup strategies and high availability scenarios. An example of
implementation includes work for AIG and Chartis following Superstorm
Sandy. By using a two datacenter model, fully replicated, we
recovered NYC, Jersey City, and Livingston seamlessly in Fort Worth,
Texas in less than 48 hours, not losing a single transaction.
. People Management: I have operated in a management and leadership role
over the past 15 years which included responsibility for hiring, talent
management/career growth and firing decisions. I work closely with team
members to create measurable goals and objectives that are informed and
measured by self-evaluations, management assessments and 360 feedback.
I pride myself in working side-by-side with my employees. I give them
realistic goals, and provide them every opportunity to achieve them. I
encourage and identify, assuming budgets allow, employee
training/certifications. I believe in giving feedback regularly (in more
informal settings) and having more formal/in-depth reviews twice a year
to be sure employees are on track to meet their goals.
. Cross-functional Collaboration: In all positions, my role has been to
work with all areas of the organization to ensure the enterprise wide IT
systems met their needs and identify and implement any specific/unique
needs. This included explaining technology to those less familiar with
it and mapping and sketching various solutions to help teams better
understand and visualize various solutions.
