n Negotiation of a new waste pickup/disposal and landfill management
contract with Waste Management Inc., which saved the municipality over
$500,000 a year in manpower and equipment, and profits over $400,000 in
the landfill contract.
n Renegotiation of the multi-annual fleet and maintenance contract in which
the municipality saved over $300,000 during the first year and it expected to
increase every year.
n Decentralization of working force by dividing Mayagüez city in three zones,
two of which were relocated with equipment and personnel to facilities in the
areas which they serve, making more effective the work performed.
n Coordinating with the department of correction two crews of ten inmates
each, to work in maintenance of municipality roads
n Creation of a new customer service area and computer program in
coordination with the engineering department of the University of Puerto
Rico through a research sponsored by the National Science Foundation and
the Municipality as well.

Establishing a new contract with Ponce Resources to pickup from our facility,

n In charge of the construction of a sixteen million dollar ($16,000,000)
roadway project in Las Americas Expressway, San Juan PR. This road is one
of the principal accesses to the city with a daily average traffic of 250,000
vehicles. The project management consisted in fieldwork combined with
office administration and project tracking which demanded an average of
eighty hours of work per week. The project had the following characteristics:
ü In charge of supervising three engineers which were assigned to two
shifts working 24 hrs. /day, 7 days a week for the first two months and
during the nights the followings months.
ü First phase consisted in the construction of 4.5 kms of reversible lanes in
two months through the centerline of the expressway without disturbing
traffic, nor closing lanes during peak hours.
ü Second phase consisted in the rehabilitation of eight kilometers of
Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP) distributed in eight lanes.
Also the conversion of sixteen kilometers of flexible pavements
shoulders to PCCP and the conversion of twenty-seven exits ramps.
