VP Human Resources & Legal Counsel

Recruited as first VP Human Resources & Legal Counsel to integrate, optimize, lead and manage HR functions

and reduce legal risks and costs at recently-merged, $350 million, private equity-backed direct mail marketer and

manufacturer, with 4,000 employees at seven businesses in eight states, Amsterdam and Milan sales offices, and a

China manufacturer. Reporting to CFO and CEO, and directly leading six regional human resources managers and

a compliance officer, and indirectly leading nine HR generalists and three environmental, health & safety

managers, methodically audited each business, identified system and people improvement opportunities,

prioritized highest-leverage improvement initiatives, and tenaciously led and managed change processes.

Key Team Accomplishments:

• Quickly established credibility throughout organization by conducting comprehensive listening tour to

determine organizational capabilities internal and external clients needed and expected HR to help create;

• Successfully transformed transactional, internally-focused HR department into strategic, externally-focused

Recruited as first VP Administration and Legal Counsel to integrate, optimize, lead and manage HR function and

reduce legal risks and costs at $300 million, private equity-backed, vertically-integrated forest products marketer,

distributor and manufacturer with 1,300 employees at 22 domestic operations, a UK distributor, and a China

wholesaler. Reporting to President, and directly leading three regional human resource managers, seven HR

generalists, and an environmental, health and safety director, and indirectly leading 22 office managers,

thoroughly audited each business, identified and prioritized system and people improvement opportunities,

created short and long-term improvement plans, and persistently led and managed change processes.

Key Team Accomplishments:

• Led and managed all HR and legal aspects of numerous strategic acquisitions, saving time and legal fees;

• Created or optimized and standardized HR best practices across all existing and newly-merged businesses;

• Improved strained employee relations at both union and non-union locations following years of inconsistent

Managed operations and legally advised own family’s $15 million corrugated box and display manufacturer with

100 employees. Reporting to board, soon managed entire business, with complete P&L responsibilities. Led ISO

9001 certification process and all HR, health and safety functions. Negotiated and legally handled company’s sale

in 2001 to world’s largest private paper and packaging company.
