Experience
November, 2006 -November, 2013. SAIF Corporation, Salem, OR. Claims
Examiner. I utilized current knowledge of workers' compensation statutes,
rules and case law as well as SAIF's policies, procedures and resources to
manage claims. I rendered sound and timely compensability decisions,
determining benefit entitlement. These included medical benefits, permanent
and temporary disability benefits and vocational services. I analyzed
claims to establish reserves for ultimate probable cost. Managing litigated
claim issues to resolution, in collaboration with SAIF legal resources, was
critical. Often it was necessary to employ the Fraud and Investigations
team to assist in gathering and assessing claim information to posture a
defense, change a legal position, or evaluate a claim for settlement. I
continually monitored all claims to ensure successful resolution. This
required identifying any issues that required an updated plan of action for
progression to claim closure and containment of ultimate claim costs. Daily
responsibilities required bringing claims to closure by obtaining all
legally required documentation.
July, 1995- October, 2006. Western Oregon University, Monmouth, OR. Manager
of Office Operations. I was responsible for the management of the student
housing and food service contracts and reservations. I initiated, updated
and maintained resident accounts and reservation assignments. Researching
all housing requests to assign to appropriate reservations was my sole
responsibility. I obtained statements from prospective residents to assess
additional information to make appropriate housing decisions and
assignments. I was responsible for the recruitment, selection, training and
supervision of mailroom and office assistant staff, Family Housing Manager,
and Office Specialist. I collaborated directly with Administrative
Computing to improve, update, create and implement data and reporting in
the CBORD Odyssey and BANNER SIS programs. I coordinated and administered
correspondence and procedural documents, including mass mailings, to
current and future residents. My position directly assisted the Dean of
Students and the Assistant Directors of University Residences in resolving
student concerns, account credits and debits, and administration of
reservation events throughout the academic year. Production of weekly,
monthly and quarterly reports of occupancy and reservations was my
responsibility. I served as a point of contact for all tasks assumed by the
support staff.
January, 1995- July, 1995. Western Oregon University, Monmouth, OR. Office
Assistant. My duties included updating, coding, and maintaining personal
alumni records. I edited, processed and distributed correspondence letters,
contact reports, agendas, notices and memos. I received, receipted, logged
and processed incoming financial gifts and income for the department.
Creating and maintaining the filing system was my responsibility. I sorted
and distributed all mail, received and routed all calls utilizing a multi-
line phone system while completing various support tasks.
September, 1994- December, 1994. Law Offices of Hendrick and Contois,
Salem, OR. Secretary. I was responsible for opening, maintaining, and
closing confidential files, drafting and finalizing documents, receiving
and receipting income, and maintaining client ledgers and agreements. I
acted as office manager by ordering supplies and tracking all inventory,
creating new filing systems, and making all appointments. My general office
duties included answering a multi-line phone, transcribing, copying, filing
and maintaining all client information.
