Social media for Real-Time Traffic Prediction)

MASTER’S THESIS, CURRENT PROJECTS

Master’s Thesis:

“Real-time Traffic Prediction and Incident Analysis Using Crowdsourcing and Twitter,” October 2013 – Fall 2014

Finding novel and innovative sources of data for road traffic such as Crowdsourcing, Twitter and micro -blogs.

Processing the obtained real-time data using Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Text Mining tools.

Predicting the real-time traffic based on Tweets etc., and using clustering, classification techniques to detect an Incident.

Mapping the Traffic and Incidents on top of Google Maps as the Visualization part.

Current Projects:

"Large Scale Road Network Optimization as a Big-data Problem using Map-reduce” October – Dec. 2013

Analyzed few real road networks (Millions of nodes and Billion s of edges) by parallelizing Shortest-Path algorithms to track and com-

pare their performance on Distributed Computing Systems ( Apache Giraph and Hadoop) vs sequential computing.

EXPERIENCE AND INTERNSHIPS

Graduate Research Assistant, Georgia Institute of Technology (Current)

Obtaining Real-time traffic information in internal streets (not present in Google, Apple and other maps) . Using numerical simulation,

traffic information from adjacent main roads/highways and routing algorithms to solve the sub-problems and finally scaling it up.

Location Intelligence and Geospatial Navigation Application Development for people with disabilities.

July 2012 – July 2013

Software Developer, Oracle, Hyderabad (India)

Worked as a core developer in Oracle’s Fusion Middleware Applications team.

Products: Governance, Risk & Compliance: (Data Mining), Human Capital Management

Projects:

1) Cleanup: To clean immense amount of backend data generated while executing heavy enterprise applications.

2) Auto Bug Report Filing Tool: Made interface to auto create and assign the bugs for violations found in the applica-

tions, while testing. Involved parsing of the data generated after every build.

3) Migration: Involved in automating the migration process of an already existing GRC product and its code to a newer

version and merging it to a more advanced platform called Fusion. A Continuous Integration Tool (Hudson) was

used. Received a good insight over Handling Big Data.

Tools used: Shell Script, Hudson, Apache Maven, SQL & JAVA. Version Control: GIT, ADE

Research Assistant, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, SERC, Government of India July ‘11 – April ‘12

Worked on the Computational applications in Civil Engineering (Numerical Modelling and Simulation) and published it in various

reputed journals.

PUBLICATIONS

Publication in International Journals:

International Journal of Sustainable Materials and Structural Systems: “Performance of NSM-FRP RC Beams in Flexure and

Shear Using Locally Developed CFRP Rebars ”,

International Journal of Composites for Construction, ASCE: “Experimental and Parametric Investigation of Response of NSM

CFRP Strengthened RC Beams.”

International Journal of Structure and Infrastructure Engineering: “Evaluation of Seismic Response of Beam-Column Sub-assem-

blages and their Up-gradation using Near Surface Mounted (NSM) FRP Bars.”

International Journal of Construction and Building Materials: “Numerical Evaluation of Bond-slip Relations for Near-Surface

Mounted Carbon Fiber Bars Embedded in Concrete- Part I & Part II.”
