Working at the hospital I draw labs from patients. I

also do E.K.G.’s to check the heart rhythm of

patients. I do temporary casts and splints for

fractures. I take vital signs every 2 hours. I also

triage patients when they first come in.I also collect

blood cultures and wound cultures. I clean and dress

wounds. I also set up and assist physicians with

chest tubes, sutures, I also train new nurses with

several different skills that are used in the E.R.I am

also a liaison between the hospital and the patient

and the patient families. I also do pregnancy tests

and urine bedside tests. I spent my first 5 years in

the E.R..I transferred to the CVOR cardiovascular

operating room or open heart surgery as most

commonly known. I would assist the surgeons with

procedures such as pacemakers defibrillators. I

also assisted with carotid endarterectomies.I

assisted with open heart surgery I would hold the

heart while the surgeon attached bypass vessels, all

the time maintaining a sterile field.I would set up

the OR before surgery.I used 3 different computer

charting systems,I was a department trainer for

these systems.I was in the CVOR for 4 years .I went

back into the ER last where I am at present. I have

taught CPR and BLS FOR A TOTAL TIME OF 18

YEARS.i HAVE BEEN A EMT for a total time of 19

years.
