Education
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, USA. 2008 to Dec., 2013
M.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, China. 2005 to 2008
B.S. in Polymer Science and Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, China. 2001 to 2005
Professional Experience
Research Assistant, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, USA 2008 present
Developed fibrous substrates with electro spun polymeric fibers and surface modified polysaccharide nanofibers to replace conventional
sponge like substrates for high efficiency.
Prepared NF or RO barrier layers on the fibrous substrates through interfacial polymerization. Improved the membrane performances by
optimizing the formulation of reaction and by introducing additives (ionic liquids, surfactants, comonomers, nanoparticles, and nanofibers).
Introduced direct water channel structure into ultrathin membrane through interfacial polymerization and UV polymerization.
Designed slot die head and achieved quantitative control on NF membrane performance by slot die coating.
Developed coating process to mechanically produce new NF membranes with doubled permeability and the same selectivity on ions,
comparing with commercial NF membrane, NF270 (DOW Filmtec).
Teaching Assistant, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, USA 2008 present
Organized and supervised students to work on experiments, delivered short and effective lectures, responded to their questions and graded lab
reports in general and physical chemistry labs.
Mentor of High School Students, Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY, USA 2008 present
Mentored high school students with independent research projects every summer.
One of my students was Siemens semi finalist in 2009.
Research Assistant, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Beijing, China 2005 2008
Prepared polyurethane microcapsules with synthesized photo sensitive monomers to encapsulate dyes.
Developed a cost effective film by coating microcapsule emulsion onto printing paper. Images were easily recorded into the
film by UV irradiation and developed by thermal treatment.
