Graduate Research – Optical Imaging Laboratory, Dr. Godavarty,

Research involved the use of near infrared spectroscopy to monitor and analyze activation of brain signals in response to language tasks, cognitive tasks,
motor tasks, in both healthy populations, as well as populations suffering from neurological/physiological disorders (i.e Autism, Cerebral Palsy,
Epilepsy).Also involved in the development of a multi-wavelength optical imaging system capable of performing real-time imaging of the brain through
the use of near infrared spectroscopy. Research also involved working to optimize the clinical translation of a second generation hand-held optical imaging
device used in the monitoring of Breast Cancer.
Undergraduate Research- Cardiovascular Analysis Laborartory, Dr. Michael C. Christie

Research involved the analysis/modeling of changing blood flows through different pathways of the human circulatory system due to different
commercially available arterial stents. Research also involved with the analysis/modeling of blood flows through human hearts infused with
artificially implantable heart valves.

Dr. Young-Jin Jung, Post-doctoral student (Spring 2012) : mentored in the development of Optical head caps towards spectroscopic imaging of brain
regions, as well as the theory of near-infrared spectroscopy in brain imaging applications.
Dr. Sarah Erickson, Post-doctoral student (Fall 2011) : Taught operational proficiency in the use of a second generation 2-D optical imaging system with
applications towards near-infrared spectroscopic imaging of the brain. Taught basic theory and principles behind spectroscopic imaging of the brain.
Manuela Roman, graduate student (Summer 2010-Present): Taught basic theory of optics, as well as applications of near infrared spectroscopy towards
various areas of research. Trained student to be operationally proficient in various lab imaging equipment ( i.e Optical Homodyne system, Generation I/
Generation II hand held optical imager).

Served as a mentor to several senior design teams during their final year undergraduate projects. Taught students the various aspects of senior design as it
applied to their specific projects ( failure mode analysis (PFMECA, DFMECA ), DHF/DMF record keeping of medical device, Verification/Validation
testing approaches, translation of device to industry applications), as well as how to present devices in a commercially viable manner.
