manually through paper work. This manual process is not efficient enough to

handle real time operational requirements. The development of this real

time resource management tool will bridge the gap between the current

United Airlines Limited (UAL) is a conglomeration of United Airlines and

United Express (UAX). UAX is the term given to a group of small carriers

that operates under the brand of United. The FLIFO (Flight Operation)

performance reports of UAX carriers were prepared manually by collecting

each carrier data from the Apollo database. The process of preparation of

this report was an exhaustive one and requires a lot of time and effort.

The accuracy of the interpreted data was not at a satisfactory level. Then

a separate database was created to store UAX flight information from Apollo

that was used for real-time information through a web-based interface. The

reporting interface System Status Display (SSD) was developed in this phase

only and later the reporting interface for United was also constructed in

this phase.

The purpose of the SSD application is to provide consistent, reliable and

timely operational information to UAL customers by ensuring that all the

operational teams of both United Airlines (UAL) and United Express (UAX)

have a consistent view of the integrated airline. The secondary objective

is to provide enhanced reporting capabilities to the appropriate UAL

personnel on UAL and UAX performances, which will reduce the time spent in

making collaborative decisions by enabling managers to proactively manage

operational performances. It provides easy information accessibility

through web-based reporting.

Phase II of the project focused on the enhancements of modules delivered in

phase 1 and generation of new performance reports where the reports were

much more specific to operational criteria which may vary in daily

operation. New features were added in the existing report to make them much

more effective.

In the subsequent phases, the middle-tier and back-end responsibility has

been taken out and given to a different team. The SSD project continues as

a front-end development project. The old system has been enhanced by

adding new features, changing the middle-tier and merging UA-SSD and UAX-

SSD together to get an integrated view. Write Shell Scripts for different

jobs.
