IT Infrastructure Developer and Engineer

Working as Level 3 HPIT Engineer and analyst responsible for driving

technical and business service resolutions to restore service and

maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction by technical and

functional support to current ITI/BCS (Business Critical Systems) supported

High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) Clustered systems. At this

position I'm also responsible for providing systems engineering support for

HPIT supported UNIX/Linux/ESX servers as well as the consumption and the

financial aspects of the systems in the 24X7 BCS Tower.

The L3 Operations team, through the use of alternate shifts, covers their

duties 7 days a week from 7 AM CT to 7 PM CT in all three data center

locations which include Atlanta, GA, Austin and Houston, TX. The principal

duties and responsibilities I perform as L3 Operations team member include

the following:

. Assist other team members with both parts and service logistics

effort allowing other members to focus on their current repair

efforts.

. Prepare financial statements for the hardware and operating system

consumption by the BCS team.

. Perform Hardware break fix repairs and firmware updates where

necessary on all supported platforms, which include x86 blades,

Itanium blades, RX76xx, RX86XX, and Super Domes 1 & 2 as well as

other large systems servers.

. Perform Site to Site failovers for applications configured on HADR

clusters monthly as scheduled by the business owners.

. Perform firmware update and installations upon specific requests.

. Participate in formal Escalations when required to support the

escalation team and as an escalation engineer backup when crisis

events occur.

. Participate in approved change requests (RFC's) spanning Hardware

upgrades, application changes, service logistics and platform changes

as documented in the RFC.

. Participate in efforts to support both BCS Tower and HP Company

goals.

Senior Linux/Unix System Administrator

Member of a 24x7 UNIX support team responsible for front line

engineering support of various systems and configurations of HP-UX/Linux

Operating systems exceeding 6,000 in number located throughout the world.

. My role as a member of the UNIX tower team is to provide UNIX OS

expertise to solve and fix a myriad group of problems, errors, and

software issues that come to the group through a ticketing program

with pre-assigned priorities based on the criticality and importance

of the server to Hewlett Packard's business needs. We work on HP-UX

11.11, HP-UX 11.23, HP-UX 11i, Linux Red Hat, and HP Tru64 systems as

required per the tickets received in our extensive queue for the UNIX

tower.

. I am in a senior UNIX position within the UNIX tower, and I am a

consistent top closer of issues as relates to the HP-UX and Linux (Red

Hat) environments. Our issues range from hardware to software and

include troubleshooting the problems and or issues until a resolution

is reached within a window of time determined by the ticket priority

assigned. We work on single ended systems (possibly multiple

applications) and clustered systems. Our clustering software is HP

Service Guard (predominately for HP-UX systems) and Veritas clustering

software (for Linux machines with HP's Logical Volume Manager

(LVM) and Veritas's Volume Manager for file system management. All

systems make extensive use of SAN for file system space, or remote

disk arrays.

. I help provide HP-UX training for more junior level team members to

help them learn the best practices for determining troubleshooting

techniques, HP-UX specific file and log locations, file system

management, etc.

. Frequently I serve as a senior HP-UX resource on escalations and

emergency fixes for mission critical servers. I was usually the UNIX

representative advising on bridge calls when UNIX resources were

needed for any particular instance concerning systems hardware or

software issues. I was able to prevent many problems from being

further escalated by fixing the issues before our time limit was

reached.

. From webhosting perspective I support Apache and Tomcat for webhosting

servers and also support managed servers and admin servers. Also

maintain weblogic (different versions) and restart them upon request.
