phases of high-voltage and medium-voltage substation projects.
Manage engineering deliverables, equipment manufacture/delivery and construction support

single & three lines, cable/conduit schedules, bill of materials and developing standards.

Representative Project Experience
Carolina Power & Light – 1986-2000
Responsible for independently performing 200 plus projects spanning 10-years in design function.
Projects consisted of major rebuilds/retrofits of brownfield facilities and construction of new
distribution and transmission substations. Instrumental in standards development and preparation
of oil spill containment systems. 4 years of substation construction experience of constructing
new facilities and retrofitting existing substations.
Progressive Landscaping, Inc. – 1999-2006
President and Project Manager responsible for estimating, determining scope of work, preparing
and tracking budgets & schedules, project logistics, developing customer and supplier
agreements and to have projects completed on time and under budget with excellent customer
satisfaction.
ABB – 2000 project with PG&E at the Metcalf 500kV Substation, Install 500kV Capacitor
Bank, San Jose, CA.
Instrumental in design and layout of two 500kV capacitor banks at the PG&E Metcalf electrical
substation. Provided designs for plan and elevations, foundation layout, conduit and cable plans,
schedule and bill of materials. MicroStation with IRAS/B employed here.
ABB 2001-2002 internal project PS-1 Modular Substation Standards, Raleigh, NC.
Instrumental in creation of PS-1 Modular Substation Standards at 69kV and 138kV voltage levels.
Key designer as related to layouts and modules of 4 major configurations that were incorporated
into a database configuration and automation program, employed by the marketing and sales
group. Reviewed numerous electrical codes and established design criteria related to National
Electrical Code, ANSI and Rural Utility Services (RUS) specifications, AutoCAD 2D and 3D
implemented here. Engineered one substation for 138/12 kV Walgreens distribution center in
Toledo, Ohio.
ABB -2002-2003 project with Basin Electric Cooperative, Add 230 DC Convertor
Switchyard, Rapid City, South Dakota
Lead designer for substation electrical plan and elevations, foundation layouts and concrete
foundation details, grounding design and layouts, conduit plans, trench and drainage plans. Note:
this was a new facility and encompassed an area of approximately 15 acres In addition,
coordinated foundation analysis and design layouts with consultant in Louisiana. AutoCAD
utilized here.
ABB 2002 project with South Illinois 161 kV Switchyard
Instrumental in preparation of conceptual/proposal layout designs and engineering plans for 161
kV switchyard at South Illinois Co-op and modifications in 69 kV switchyard. AutoCAD used here.
ABB 2003 project with Austin Energy; Austin, Texas, Add 138 kV Static Compensator
Switchyard
Lead designer in preparation of plan and elevations, foundation plans, conduit and grounding
plans for installation of three(3) 138 kV capacitor banks and breakers, two (2) 138kV transformer
bank breakers, one (1) 138 kV tie breaker and two(2)138 kV main bank transformers. Numerous
drive areas for future maintenance activities where required as part of this design. Note: the
substation was built on top of a 135’ diameter concrete underground oil storage tank and the
switchyard layout was incorporated into a 200’-0” x 160’-0” area. Numerous electrical clearances
had to be reviewed due to this small footprint installation.
Progress Energy 2004-2005 responsibilities
Instrumental in design of new 230kV substation standards including electro-mechanical
components consisting of structures, bus work, conduit and grounding systems and creation of bill
of materials included in an automated bill of material database incorporating macro and
compatible units. Responsible for major rebuild of Wadesboro 115/23kV substation with 115kV
voltage designed for future 230kV.
Black & Veatch 2006 project with Intel at a 110/12kV Switchyard, Ho Chin Minh City,
Vietnam, 2-months onsite.
Lead designer instrumental in preparation of conceptual/proposal layout designs and engineering
plans for 110 kV switchyard at this new facility. AutoCAD used here.
Black & Veatch 2006 project with Westar 345/115 kV Emporia Switchyard
Lead designer involved in substation electrical designs for plan and elevations, foundation layouts
and concrete foundation details, grounding design and layouts, conduit plans, trench and drainage
plans. Note: this was a new facility in proximity to new combustion turbine generation plant and
encompassed an area of approximately 12 acres fenced area. AutoCAD utilized here.
Black & Veatch 2007 project with Westar 345kV Wichita Switchyard
Lead designer for substation electrical plan and elevations, foundation layouts and concrete
foundation details, grounding design and layouts, conduit plans, trench and drainage plans. Note:
this was an existing facility requiring upgrade and addition of new 345kV line breakers and bus
work. AutoCAD employed here.
ABB 2008-2009 projects responsibilities with PG&E
Lead designer/coordinator for proposal and final substation electrical designs and bill of materials
for major upgrades at the following stations: Henrietta 230kV, Haas 60kV, Wheeling Ridge 60kV,
Lamont 60kV, and assisted with close out of Monta Vista 115/60kV retrofits.
ABB 2009-2010 project with IPP – Intermountain Power Project at Intermountain 345kV DC
Converter Station, Utah. Additional project at Adelanto 500kV DC Converter Station Los
Angeles
Lead designer in preparation of substation electrical plan and elevations, foundation layouts and
concrete foundation details, grounding design and layouts, conduit plans, trench and drainage
plans. Note: this was an existing facility requiring upgrade and addition of new AC harmonic filter
bank equipment at both locations (90mil). MicroStation employed here.
Siemens 2010 project with Duquesne Light Company, Carson 138/23kV Substation,
Pittsborough, PA
Instrumental in preparation and design of retrofit including addition of #2 138/23kV transformer
bank & medium voltage switchgear. 2011 AutoCAD utilized here.
Siemens 2010-2011 project with Pepco Benning 230kV GIS Switchyard Washington D.C.
Instrumental in preparation and design of 120/208VAC auxiliary power systems in GIS enclosure
building including heating, ventilation, fire alarm, lighting and receptacle services. 2011 AutoCAD
utilized here.
Siemens 2011-2013 project with PSE&G Bergen 230kV GIS Switchyard, Newark N.J.
Instrumental in design of 30- 1 ” breaker 230 GIB Switchyard preparing conceptual layouts for
external consultant to further develop into construction drawings. Also, developed outage one-
lines and physical arrangements –14 GIS layouts for retrofit in 230kV switchyard. Also, performed
numerous primary drawing revisions for new installations in 230, 138, and 26kV switchyards.
Siemens – Internal 2010 - 2013
Key contact for development of substation standards to be used internally within organization.
Standards included electro-mechanical structures and major equipment from 34.5kV to 500kV
voltages. Also, numerous standards developed for grounding, conduit and bus connection
systems. Developed 3D library for future use in Inventor 3D software. Developed numerous
Engineering Design Procedures and Indexes for the unit. Attended NEC 2012 and AutoCAD
Inventor training in 2012. Underwent process of evaluating 3D CADD automated engineering
software packages such as Bentley Substation and AutoCAD Substation Design Suite CADD
administrator for MicroStation – Bentley software products.

Lead designer of substation electrical designs for plan and elevations, foundation layouts and
