EXPERIENCE
Contract Writer
Paragon Solutions Inc. (Verizon Wireless)
10/12/12 - 4/30/13
I worked at Verizon Wireless documenting their tax processes. These
processes are semi-automated but still require the actions of accountants
to perform these functions. In addition, these processes were developed
over a period of 10-15 years and were never documented. My tasks involved
interviewing, running through the processes and then writing the manuals.
To do this job required the use of Excel, Access and SQL databases. I
developed the design, templates, and determined the content of the
deliverables based upon the manual's audience.
This job required me to work independently and with minimal direction. The
project was intended to be two months, but was extended four additional
months.
Apex Systems Inc. (Ericsson Television)
6/6/2011-9/19/2012
I worked at Ericsson Television as a senior technical writer preparing
project design, educational, and marketing materials for a content
management system (CMS), catcher/pitcher file transfer system, and
advertising insert system. These projects function together as an
automated system which receives input from content providers (like Sony),
transcodes the files for various devices (TV, iPhone, cable, movie
theaters, laptops, and so on) for multiple customers, and delivers these
files either by satellite or internet.
These projects used software packages such as Aspera, Baton, Elemental,
Envivio, and a custom CMS engine to automate this process. I documented the
operation of each application and also their interaction of each as a part
of the complete system. I also documented the business of on-boarding
customers in a first-contact situation. I designed and wrote documentation
for the System Analysts to take with them and gather all information
sufficient for a Proof-of-Concept Phase trial with a customer. In addition,
I generated documentation necessary to move the process from a trial phase
to a production phase. I also used SharePoint to conduct my shared reviews
of documentation.
CorTech, LLC 9/01/10
- 2/28/11
Worked at Arris Inc. as a contract technical writer developing a Wiki
website for their FMC (Fixed Mobile Convergence) MAS (Mobility Application
Server) telephony project. This job involved writing for the web and
documenting the server hardware, board installation/removal, routine
maintenance, and startup and power-down procedures. I also documented the
software application features such as provisioning subscribers using mBOSS
and SOAP interfaces, location of log files, error files, troubleshooting,
special features, CDR features, and so on.
The approach taken was to provide general information as top-level sections
and the deeper into the website, the more detail the information. An index
page of all articles was provided, as well as a search feature. In
addition, a change page was added for future updates and a link to the
official product released features matrix was added.
In addition to writing the material, I coded all input using the Wiki mark-
up language.
Proposal Manager
SAWTST, LLC 12/15/09 -
3/30/10
Designed the proposal process for SAWTST and performed the function of
Proposal Manager in the pursuit of government contracts. Worked as a writer
when we were a subcontractor on a proposal and as Proposal Manager and
writer when we were the prime contractor. Developed all the required
artifacts to support the proposal process, coordinated the subcontractors,
proofed and edited materials, put volumes together, and submitted final
proposal for consideration.
