Positive and effective leadership and communication skills.

EXPERIENCE:

6/2010 to Present: Mossberg & Co. / 301 E. Sample St. South Bend, In.

Bindery Manager

Managing 3 shifts of over 30 employees for an offset /sheetfed Printer.

Job duties include:

* Maintain departmental unit cost and improve efficiencies by controlling safety, quality, production, manning, and waste (Lean Implementation).

* Job Planning and Scheduling

* Develop Metrics

* Give input on new machinery and ROI.

* Develop employee morale

Training:

Studied at Purdue University Technical Assistance Program for Lean manufacturing. Studied and Applied Lean principles to workforce.

Courses included:

* Lean 101

* 5S Implementation

* Kaizen Event Training

* Value Stream Mapping

* TPM

Was made champion to implement Lean principles into the facility. Led several Kaizen and 5S events. Implemented QCO (Quick Change Over) which reduced downtime and inventory while increasing uptimes.

Accomplishments:

* Developed Metrics for Cutting, Folding, and stitching. These metrics were also used in changing the way we priced our work.

* Implemented Lean manufacturing into the department and held 5S events on our stitchers and folders.

* Held Kaizen events on folders and stitchers and implemented QCO by filming make readies, dissecting these make readies and found areas where we could reduce make ready times. As an example, we took our most extensive make ready on our stitchers and reduced the time in more than half (126 minutes down to 51 minutes).

* Cost savings on materials.

* Reduced the dollar amount that we spent on cartons, by eliminating 1/3 of carton inventory. This was projected to save over 5000.00 a year.

* Switched vendors on stitching wire. Mossberg was paying 1.70 lb. on wire. I found a better wire at a cost of 1.15 lb. This was a projected savings of over 7000.00 a year.

* Mossberg had several labor reductions during my tenure and our second and third shifts were very weak as far as manning was concerned. I took this plant from a 3 shift / 8 hour operation down to a 2 shift / 10 hour operation. In doing this we were able to operate more equipment on the off shifts. In some cases, production and hours went up as much as 25% on some of the equipment. None of the equipment showed a decrease.

* 8/2008 to 6/2010: CNW Gravure / 4710 Madison Rd. Cincinnati, Ohio This plant supplies the Roto-gravure printers with ready to print cylinders.

In charge of copper-electro plating, polishing, engraving, chrome plating, print/proof and Flexographic plating. Supervised over 15 employees in the production of ready to print cylinders for Rotogravure print industry and ready to print plates for the Flexo industry.

* Maintain departmental unit cost and improve efficiencies by controlling production, manning, and waste.

* Maintain scheduling.

* Maintain employee morale

Accomplishments:

* Established metrics for engraving cylinders. This was identified by Line screen, angle, cell width, and cell depth. All cylinders were engraved with these specifications.

Bindery Supervisor – Bindery Dept. 06/2002 to 10/2006

Direct, lead and motivate a team of 100+ employees during a 12-hour shift in a high-volume, fast-paced production dept.

Lead and direct the monthly department meetings and foster the development and implementation of new ideas.

Accomplishments:

* Led production for all 3 shifts during the length of my employment.

* In the Bindery, we had problems with a job where every signature looked the same. We were having problems with our pocket feeders placing the signatures into the wrong pockets, thus throwing the pagination out in the book.

To rectify this problem, I created a procedure for this specific job. Operators would set up the job, by placing signatures in every other pocket, leaving an empty pocket in between each signature.

During the run of the book, operators would have to pull check books every 1000 books rather than the usually required 5000 books.

* Help set up plate curves for the different substrates and different inks that were used on press. First thing that had to be done would be to finger print the press to measure the dot gain. Curves were made to the highlight and shadow dots.
