Summary:
• After graduating with my medical degree, my initial assignment was working as a community doctor in a clinic in
Quivican Havana, Cuba for 4 years.
• My second assignment was at the HIV/AIDS clinic in Santiago de las Vegas, Boyeros, Cuba, for 2 years as the head
of the opportunistic infectious disease and immunutrition department.
• My next assignment was at the Boyeros University Clinic, Boyeros, Havana Cuba from 2003 to 2005 as Assistant
Director of Hygiene and Epidemiology and Medical assistance, then as Medical Director.
• From 2005 to 2007 I was sent as a member of a Cuban Medical Brigade, to the Republic of Botswana in Africa
working in the Nyangabgwe hospital in Francistown. As a part of the brigade, I was assigned responsibilities for the
internal medicine services, the diabetic clinic, and the care of patients with HIV/AIDS and associated pathologies
(IDCC), the isolation ward and emergency medicine department.
• Upon my return to Cuba, I was again assigned to the Boyeros University Clinic from 2007 to 2008.
• From 2008 to 2009, I was the Medical Director of the Martires de Calabazar Clinic in Havana with 37,000 patients
and 479 employees.
• In October 2009 I was sent as a member of a Cuban Medical Brigade to Venezuela where I was primarily worked as
family physician.
• In January, 2010 I left the Cuban Brigade and went to Bogota, Columbia where I worked as a general practitioner in a
medical clinic for 3 months while waiting for my Refugee Status to be granted by the US State Department.
